The S&P Index database is the third new data source introduced during 2000 by FAME.
"The introduction of the S&P Index database in FAME combines the leader in measuring performance across US Markets with the leader in time-series database management," said Niel Siekerka, vice president, data services at FAME Financial Markets, a division of FAME Inc.
The FAME S&P Index database is updated daily and contains both the index and constituent history for the major Standard & Poor's US Indices. Indices covered include the S&P 500, S&P MidCap 400, S&P SmallCap 600, S&P SuperComposite 1500, S&P 100, S&P/BARRA Growth & Value and the S&P REIT Composite as well as respective sector and industry sub-indices.
The S&P 500, 400 and 600 indices combined represent the S&P SupperComposite 1500 and make up 87% of the U.S. equity market capitalization. The S&P 500 and 400 are used by U.S. managers and pension plan sponsors as the preferred measurement for large-cap and mid-cap U.S. stock performance respectively. The S&P SmallCap 600 is gaining acceptance as the preferred benchmark for both active and passive investment management due to its low turnover and greater liquidity.
The S&P 100 measures large company U.S. stock market performance. This market capitalization-weighted index is made up of 100 major U.S. blue chip stocks across diverse industry groups.
The S&P/BARRA Growth & Value Index splits companies from the S&P 400, 500 and 600 indices into two groups based on the price-to-book ratio to create growth and value indices. The Value index contains companies with lower price-to-book ratios, while the Growth index contains those with higher ratios.
In addition, the S&P REIT Composite index is a benchmark of the market performance of U.S. Real Estate Investment Trusts. The REIT Composite consists of 100 REITs chosen for their liquidity and importance in representing a diversified real estate portfolio, The Index covers over 80% of the securitized U.S. real estate market.
