SOLIHULL, England--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 20, 2000
TRW Aeronautical Systems (Lucas Aerospace) (NYSE: TRW) was presented the UK Council for Electronic Business' (UKCeB) 2000 award today for the most significant implementation of e-business techniques for its spares website, www.trwaerospares.com. The award was presented during UKCeB's flagship conference "e-business for Industry" at the Olympia Exhibition Center in London.
The award-winning web page, www.trwaerospares.com, was launched on March 27 of this year and links directly to the Company's spares logistics system, providing customers access to 166,000 TRW Aeronautical Systems commercial aircraft spares, 24 hours a day, anywhere in the world. The web page allows customers to check pricing and availability, place orders, and track order and delivery status any time of day.
"We are very pleased that our web page has been recognized for the e-business techniques it employs, allowing us to provide a broad range of options for our customers," said David Ashton, Director of TRW Aeronautical Systems Equipment Service. "Based on the level of response from our customers, the www.trwaerospares.com web page has been successful in simplifying and streamlining their spares ordering and processing and is a significant contributor to our e-business solutions for aftermarket support."
TRW Aeronautical Systems has been aggressively expanding its e-business solutions in spares trading, automated repair logistics, catalog procurement, electronic request-for-quotation and supply demand. The Company has gained invaluable experience by proceeding with implementation and has gained market credibility from its hands-on rather than "concept design" approach.
"TRW Aeronautical Systems' approach to e-business is very much predicated on improving its underlying performance through enhancing customer satisfaction, streamlining supply chain processes and eliminating waste," said Arabella Bijlani, Business Improvement Director for TRW Aeronautical Systems. "TRW Aeronautical Systems has driven e-business as part of its Business Improvement Program to ensure delivery against these objectives, rather than e-business for e-business sake."
The UKCeB is a federation of organizations dedicated to the promotion of electronic business in the United Kingdom. It has grown out of the Continuous Acquisition Life Cycle Support (CALS) defense initiative over the past few years. Members include TRW Aeronautical Systems, BAe Systems, Defence Manufacturers' Association, GKN Westland Helicopters, Messier-Dowty, Rolls-Royce, Society of British Aerospace Companies, Smiths Aerospace, Vickers Defence Systems, and a number of civil companies.
