TTI a leading provider of turnkey smart card solutions, Monday announced it has been chosen by Microsoft Corp. to provide its PocketServer smart card personal productivity application to attendees of the Microsoft Smart Card Business Development Conference 2000, June 29-30.
One of the first applications written for the Windows for Smart Cards operating system, PocketServer will provide all attendees with the opportunity to use smart cards for various conference functions through its personal productivity applications. The multi-application chip cards will be personalized by First Data Corp.
"TTI is pleased to showcase the convenience, security and portability of PocketServer's personal productivity features," said Bill Hussey, chief executive officer, TTI. "The conference provides the perfect venue to demonstrate PocketServer's ease-of-use and exceptional functionality by putting it directly in the hands of those on the leading edge of smart card development."
"Microsoft anticipates a surging demand for smart card technology in the years ahead and developed its Windows for Smart Cards operating system to meet this burgeoning need," said Mike Dusche, product manager for Windows for Smart Cards at Microsoft.
"With its superior functionality, ease of use and security, PocketServer marries personal productivity with the affordability and portability of a smart card to provide an innovative product with enormous potential -- the conference is only the beginning."
Upon checking in at the conference, each of 400 people attending will be given a personalized smart card, which not only serves as an identification badge, but can also be used at 20 PCs with card readers located throughout the conference center to access the TTI-created conference intranet.
The intranet allows attendees to obtain information about the conference and area attractions and select a gift to be sent to the personal address stored on the card. Additionally, attendees are automatically registered to win a PocketPC every time they use their smart cards.
"This powerful combination of advanced smart card capabilities emphasizes the consumer's demand for security and privacy for Internet access and the loyalty benefits associated with using chip cards," said Ann Kennedy, First Data's vice president of global smart card business development.
"This project underscores First Data's commitment to providing our card issuing clients with innovative multi-application chip card solutions."
Following the conference, attendees will be able to take advantage of the following four PocketServer 1.0 applications:
-- myFavorites stores an editable list of favorite Web site
addresses with applicable user names and passwords. Once a
site is selected a default browser is launched to view the
site.
-- myShipTo stores cardholder address information which can be
automatically entered at e-commerce Web sites.
-- myWallet stores all information necessary for credit card
transactions.
-- myContacts stores all personal contact data including phone
numbers, email and postal addresses.
PocketServer is available for approximately $13 and is available at www.pocketserver.com.
PocketServer requires PC/SC compliant smart card readers. It is compatible with Windows 2000, Windows NT 4.0 and Windows 95 and Windows98 and supports Internet Explorer 5.0 or later.
