NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2000
Sierra Wireless AirCard(R) 300 Now Available Directly from HP and
Through Select Regional HP Authorized Resellers
Today at PC Expo, Sierra Wireless Inc. (Nasdaq:SWIR)(TSE:SW.) announced that they have teamed with Hewlett-Packard Company to deliver a wireless wide area network (WAN) solution to the mobile workforce.
HP will sell Sierra Wireless' AirCard 300, a wireless PC card, direct from its Web site, and through select regional HP authorized resellers. HP's entire family of HP OmniBook Pavilion notebook PCs will be offered with the AirCard 300. In addition, customers can use GoAmerica's service for unlimited nationwide airtime, which includes software to enhance wireless web browsing and e-mail.
The complete wireless bundle allows mobile workers to access the Internet / Intranet, corporate emails, or financial information. When they're on the road, the solution provides users with the freedom to work and communicate efficiently, just as they do at their office.
"This alliance with HP and GoAmerica is a significant step forward for Sierra Wireless' distribution strategy," said Jason Cohenour, Senior Vice President of Sierra Wireless Inc. "We're working hard to establish strategic distribution partners and open up channels to offer the AirCard to corporate users. Having the AirCard included as an accessory for HP OmniBook Pavilion notebook PCs represents a new way wireless data products can be purchased by the mobile user. We are excited that HP has chosen the AirCard and Sierra Wireless as its wireless WAN solution in its new major wireless strategy."
"Wireless WAN solutions give mobile users a new level of computing freedom while working away from their offices," said Hilary Glann, global mobile marketing manager for HP's Mobile Computing Division. "Collaborating with preferred notebook PC partner Sierra Wireless, HP delivers what mobile professionals now require: 'always on' wireless connectivity while away from the office."
Both HP and GoAmerica are members of the WirelessReady(TM) Alliance, which was founded by Sierra Wireless. The Alliance strives for members to collaborate together to build complete and compelling wireless data solutions that are user friendly and easy to purchase. This new bundle marks another major outcome from the WirelessReady Alliance.
AirCard 300
The award winning AirCard 300 is the industry's first true Type II wireless PC Card for mobile devices supporting Windows CE, 95, 98, 2000, Pocket PC and NT. With the lowest battery drain compared to all CDPD PC cards, it is also the first and only wireless wide area network interface card (NIC) for notebooks using Windows 95, 98, 2000, Pocket PC and NT. With the network interface there's no concept of dial-up. Every time the notebook is turned on, it automatically registers on the wireless network and stays connected in "always on" mode for access to Internet / Intranet, corporate email and databases, and stock information.
Product Availability
The AirCard 300 is now available directly form HP Web site and through select HP authorized resellers.
