PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 27, 2000
Completes Suite of SFF OC-3 Transceivers, Including Short-,
Intermediate-, and Long-Reach Products
Agilent Technologies Inc. (NYSE:A) today announced that it is the first company to deliver a small-form-factor (SFF) fiber-optic transceiver for 155 Mb/s SONET/SDH (OC-3) long-reach applications. Agilent, the world's leading supplier of fiber-optic transceivers, has previously introduced short-reach and intermediate-reach OC-3 transceivers in SFF format, and is the only vendor with a complete suite of products for this application.
Agilent has pioneered small-form-factor products, becoming the first company to ship a million MT-RJ SFF transceivers. MT-RJ devices are half the size of traditional duplex products, allowing networking equipment manufacturers to double port density for lower cost.
The new MT-RJ transceiver (HFCT-5915E) offers single-mode fiber connectivity, meeting SONET/SDH long-reach requirements up to 40 kilometers. It operates with a 3.3V power supply to lower power consumption and heat dissipation.
"This introduction adds to what is already a very comprehensive offering of fiber-optic products from Agilent," said David Knights, worldwide marketing manager for Agilent's Fiber Optic Communications Division. "We have seen strong demand for this product in the rapidly expanding Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) arena."
U.S. Pricing and Availability
The Agilent HFCT-5915E is available now in production quantities. It is priced between $200 and $250 per unit depending on quantities.
