NEW YORK--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2000
Ami Dar Recognized for Founding "Action Without Borders" and
Building Nonprofit Career Center on the Web
Aladdin Knowledge Systems (NASDAQ: ALDN), a global leader in the field of Internet content and software security, today announced that Ami Dar, president of its U.S. subsidiary, was selected by the Stern Family Fund as its Public Interest Pioneer for the year 2000, and awarded a $100,000 grant to help expand the Nonprofit Resource Center he maintains at www.idealist.org.
Mr. Dar founded the nonprofit organization Action Without Borders (AWB) in 1995 to help facilitate citizen action around the world, and has since volunteered as its executive director. In 1996, AWB launched Idealist.org, which has become one of the richest communities of nonprofit, advocacy and volunteering resources on the Web, with information provided by 20,000 organizations in 150 countries, and over a million page views every month.
Over the last two years, Idealist.org has also emerged as the leading nonprofit career center on the Web, making it easy for motivated and talented people to start or develop the meaningful careers they seek. Every week, an average of 100 organizations come to Idealist to list their job openings, and every day 20,000 nonprofit job seekers receive an e-mail message with links to new job openings added to Idealist in the previous 24 hours.
"Ami Dar and his small team have created in Idealist.org an unparalleled resource for the nonprofit field," said Michael Caudell-Feagan, executive director of the Stern Family Fund. "It is our honor to support such ground-breaking work. With the Pioneer grant and additional support, Idealist.org's Nonprofit Career Center can reach the scale necessary to ensure that the nonprofit sector attracts the broadest pool of talented staff, and applicants can explore the wealth of career opportunities available. Ami has exhibited the vision and technical knowledge to mold the constantly evolving resources of the Internet to serve the nonprofit sector in ways that are currently unimagined."
Mr. Dar was born in Israel and grew up in Peru and Mexico. At 18, he was drafted into the Israeli army, where he served as a paratrooper in the Lebanese war of 1982. His experiences in Lebanon, combined with the extreme poverty he witnessed growing up in Latin America, led him to start Action Without Borders as an organization that would make it easier for people everywhere to take action on issues of concern to them.
