CUPERTINO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 28, 2000
Symantec Corp. (NASDAQ:SYMC), a world leader in Internet security technology, announced today that Ron Moritz, chief technology officer at Symantec, will address the 12th Annual Computer Security Incident Handling Conference sponsored by FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) on Wednesday, June 28 in Chicago. Moritz will address Protection Against Hostile Executables during the 4:00 p.m. CST session of the conference.
New technologies that allow Web users to run mobile code, such as Visual Basic and ActiveX, have been critical to the success of the Internet. However, the same technology brings completely new security threats which have caused some companies to disable mobile code from their systems -stopping functionality of many programs. During his presentation, Moritz will explore the implications associated with allowing untrusted code to execute on the corporate network.
The international conference, which runs June 25-30, is the only event of its kind, focusing on the field of computer security incident handling and response. FIRST aims to foster cooperation and coordination in incident prevention, to prompt rapid reaction to incidents, and to promote information sharing among members and the global community at large.
Moritz is an Internet security expert with more than 15 years in the industry. He currently chairs the Common Content Inspection API interoperability standardization initiative for the security industry. He has published and presented numerous papers on a variety of security topics including mobile code security, web browser security, security and electronic commerce, and computer ethics and privacy. The International Information Systems Security Certification Consortium has certified Moritz as an information systems security professional.
