NOVATO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 5, 2000
Pocket Express announced today that it has signed exclusive license agreements to produce and market the official Palm OS(R) versions of Classic Tetris(R) and Lode Runner(TM): The Legend Returns, two of the best-selling computer entertainment brands of all time, as well as PocketChess(TM), the top-selling chess game for the Palm Computing(R) platform.
Founded in January 2000, Pocket Express' internal development focuses on improving the productivity of multi-device environments in several market areas. Pocket Express brings extensive experience in software development, marketing and sales to this arena. To capitalize on the growing market for professionally developed software for devices such as the Palm Connected Organizer by Palm Inc. (Nasdaq:PALM), Pocket Express has selected key partners and projects in order to deliver high-quality software to the hands of thousands of users.
Agreements with The Tetris Company for the Tetris brand, Human Code Incorporated for the Lode Runner: The Legend Returns brand and Tinyware, the developer of PocketChess, mark Pocket Express' first foray into the entertainment market. The official versions of these games will give users the quality, functionality, and look and feel that they expect with the added benefit of Palm portability.
"As a Palm owner, I am excited at the opportunity to work with Pocket Express to bring this all time favorite to fellow Palm aficionados," said Henk B. Rogers, Director of The Tetris Company. "Tetris is the perfect game when you have a little extra time to kill while waiting for your plane, or train or your next meeting to start."
To assist in creating authentic Palm OS versions of these games, Pocket Express has enlisted the help of two top developers. Mobile Generation Software, known for its quality Palm OS games and productivity software, has signed a licensing agreement with Pocket Express to provide the code for Classic Tetris. In a similar arrangement, independent developer Aaron Ardiri will create the Palm OS version of Lode Runner: The Legend Returns.
Each of the games has a history of critical and popular praise:
-- Tetris, regarded as the world's most popular video game, has
sold over 50 million copies worldwide. Authentic in every way,
Classic Tetris is a deceptively simple and completely
addictive electronic puzzle game.
-- Lode Runner debuted on the Apple II back in the early 1980s
and became an instant hit. In Lode Runner's successor, Lode
Runner: The Legend Returns, players navigate a miner through
an intricate, multi-leveled maze of ladders to collect gold.
To add to the challenge, users can design their own new levels
for endless fun.
-- PocketChess has consistently ranked among the top Palm OS
applications and received the 1999 Ziff-Davis Palm Software
"Game of the Year" award. It offers eight levels of
difficulty, providing appropriate game play for players of any
skill level.
"We couldn't be more pleased with the partners that we have signed," said Alma C. Rodoni, CEO, President and Co-Founder of Pocket Express. "We wanted to satisfy the consumers' need for top quality versions of the classic games that they love to play. Working with Human Code Incorporated, The Tetris Company, and Tinyware, and our strong developer partners has made it possible to enter the market with the best of the best."
Consumers can expect to see these games available for purchase on their favorite download sites and in select retail outlets this fall.
