SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 7, 2000

U.S. Home & Garden Inc. (Nasdaq: USHG) and Egarden.com, Inc., its business-to-business e-marketplace subsidiary for the global lawn and garden products industry, today announced that Egarden.com has entered into an e-commerce agreement with Proflowers.com, a leading fresh flower site.

Egarden.com, through a dedicated link to Proflowers.com, will provide its merchants with fast, easy and reliable access to fresh-cut flowers from anywhere in the world.

Proflowers.com is the innovator of the direct-from-the-grower distribution method of sending flowers, and has been judged by BizRate to be the top-ranked fresh flower site for product selection, price, customer support, Web site design, ease-of-ordering and on-time delivery. Utilizing a proprietary and fully automated system that provides a direct link from their online store to the grower, and from there, FedEx, Proflowers.com is able to ship the freshest flowers - at the lowest prices - to their customers.

"We are very pleased to have teamed up with Proflowers to provide our customers with the broadest possible selection of fresh-cut flowers that can be shipped directly from the grower," commented Linda Watson, President of Egarden.com, Inc. Proflowers is a trusted leader in the floral category, and is focused on providing customers with the best possible prices, on-time delivery, and high-ranking customer service. We believe that the ability to have on hand the freshest flowers for their customers to buy at their stores will be particularly attractive to many of the approximately 18,500 TruServ, Ace and Do it Best cooperative members and retailers that are seeking to expand into fresh-cut flower and plant offerings in an easy and cost effective manner."

Robert Kassel, Chairman and CEO of U.S. Home & Garden, commented, "Proflowers is a great strategic alliance for Egarden.com. Their fresh-cut flower service will complement our findplants.com(R) program, which offers industry participants more than 10,000 different types of plants from nearly 140 growers. Proflowers provides us with the capability to deliver a turn-key operation and quickly provide the hardware cooperatives members and independent retailers access to quality fresh-cut flowers and plants direct from the grower, a service previously unavailable to the member or retailer through their respective co-ops."

The Egarden.com marketplace is expected to go live in mid-July and deliver online supplier information and offer e-commerce transactions to all members of the lawn and garden industry, including small and medium size manufacturers, independent retailers and specialty stores, contractors, and landscapers. Industry participants will have access to a broad range of products, including, barbecue grills, bird feeders, fencing and edging, flower pots and planters, garden tools and supplies, irrigation equipment, landscaping supplies and equipment, outdoor furniture and accessories, and live-goods. In addition to lawn and garden products, Egarden.com is considering adding other product categories to its e-marketplace, enabling retailers with the capability to source and purchase a greater percentage of their total product offerings through Egarden.com.
