LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 2000
Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation and Bombardier Inc. placed approximately $5.6 million worth of orders with Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies (NYSE:TDY), to purchase Mini-Flight Data Acquisition (MFDAU) systems for Gulfstream's GIV-SP and GV aircraft and Bombardier's de Havilland Dash 8 aircraft.
Teledyne Technologies is one of the leading suppliers of systems that collect and communicate essential performance data for the commercial airline industry. The market for data acquisition systems in business and commuter aircraft continues to expand as these aircraft have begun to mirror commercial air transport aircraft in data gathering and aircraft monitoring.
The MFDAU system plays an active role as an intermediary device, acquiring and processing mandatory FAA aircraft and engine data for storage in the flight data recorder, commonly known as the black box. When installed with the Aircraft Condition Monitoring System (ACMS) option, and Teledyne Controls' Telelink(TM) data link system, the MFDAU provides the means to transmit real-time critical aircraft-condition information to the ground for analysis.
In addition, Teledyne Controls recently renewed a multi-year airborne telephony agreement with GTE Airfone and Raytheon Company. As a result, the three companies will continue sales and support of the MagnaStar(R) Air Telephone System through mid-2006. The renewal of this relationship aims to ensure customers will continue to receive high quality airborne telephone service and enhanced avionics equipment, for the next six years.
MagnaStar(R) is a digital cellular air telephone system designed specifically for corporate and regional jets. Operating exclusively over GTE's Airfone digital telephone network, the system transfers airborne calls from one cell site to another, giving its customers seamless connectivity across the continental United States, Mexico and Southern Canada. Most business aircraft original equipment manufacturers offer MagnaStar(R) as a factory installed option on new aircraft, but the system can be retrofitted to older aircraft by Teledyne's network of fixed-base operators, service and completion centers.
Since its introduction in 1992, MagnaStar(R) has undergone several enhancements including: full Private Branch Exchange (PBX) capability to support analog and digital Satcom services; ancillary devices that simplify installation; data hand-off capabilities to maintain connection in voice and data modes and new handset designs. The system's architecture allows easy upgrades to new levels of service and enables Teledyne to accommodate the growing needs of its business and commuter aviation customers.
Headquartered in Los Angeles, Calif., Teledyne Controls, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies, is a leading manufacturer and innovator of a wide range of air transport, helicopter, and airport systems. Teledyne Controls supports its many airline, airframe, helicopter, and airport customers with extensive product-support bases and facilities worldwide.
Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (www.teledyne.com) is a leading provider of sophisticated, electronics and communication products, systems engineering solutions, and aerospace engines and components. Teledyne Technologies has operations in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Mexico.
