ScanMail For Exchange 3.5 Seamlessly Integrates With the New Microsoft Exchange Virus Scan API and is Windows 2000 Compatible; Provides Fast,
Reliable and Scalable Virus Detection and Elimination
Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC), announced today that its award-winning antivirus solution for Microsoft Exchange, ScanMail for Exchange 3.5, is integrated with Microsoft's (Nasdaq:MSFT) Exchange Server 5.5, Service Pack 3 (SP3) and Microsoft Exchange 2000's new Virus Scan Application Programming Interface (API).
ScanMail for Exchange 3.5 supports both MAPI and the new Virus Scan API and provides administrators with real-time switching between methods. The integration with both APIs provides Trend Micro customers with more efficient inbound and outbound virus detection and removal by scanning all email messages and attachments before they reach an individual user's mailbox, reducing the threat of virus infections.
ScanMail for Exchange 3.5 is in the Beta 2 stage of product development and is scheduled to ship on March 30, 2000.
ScanMail for Exchange 3.5 features
-- Earlier detection and elimination of auto-executing viruses by
intercepting and scanning at the Information Store before mail
hits the Exchange server mailboxes
-- Real-time scanning and blocking of both inbound and outbound
messages, including previously unknown macro viruses, ensuring
complete virus protection in the Exchange environment
-- Single instance scanning (smart-scanning) of email messages and
attachments, intended to provide high reliability, scalability,
and performance, as messages will only be scanned once,
regardless of the number of servers, senders, and recipients
-- 100% scanning of email messages and attachments before being
delivered to the individual mailboxes, reducing the potential
threat of virus infections
-- Active Online Support, enabling administrators to communicate via
the Web directly with Trend Micro support engineers, providing
tools to aid in faster virus response and diagnosis, and
providing direct access to the Trend Micro Solution Bank (a
database containing hundreds of frequently asked product and
virus-related questions)
-- Because of the close integration with the Microsoft Exchange
Virus Scan API, ScanMail for Exchange 3.5 scans for viruses 50%
faster than the previous version
"Over the last year, we've been working closely with Microsoft to support their new Virus Scan API," said Richard Ku, Trend Micro's product manager for ScanMail for Exchange. "By taking advantage of Microsoft's new API, ScanMail for Exchange customers can be assured that they have a fast and reliable Exchange antivirus product."
"We are pleased that Trend Micro's ScanMail for Exchange antivirus product is now fully integrated with Microsoft Exchange Server Virus Scan API and believe that the combination provides a valuable solution to the problem of maintaining a virus-free Exchange environment," says Branck Hendrix, group product manager at Microsoft.
ScanMail for Exchange 3.5 provides administrators with a comprehensive and reliable solution for protecting enterprise Exchange email environments from viruses and other malicious code. ScanMail for Exchange is the first true cluster compliant antivirus solution that integrates with the Microsoft Cluster API. It provides a file-blocking feature for emergency virus alert situations, contains both a Windows and Web-based administrator interface, and is Windows 2000 compatible.
The optional plug-in for ScanMail for Exchange, eManager(TM), enhances the Microsoft enterprise messaging and collaboration environment with server-based email content filtering and spam blocking capabilities.
