LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--March 14, 2000

Twentieth Century Fox and DreamWorks SKG today announced that "Minority Report" will begin production in April 2001.

The science fiction thriller will bring together for the first time director Steven Spielberg and actor Tom Cruise.

"Minority Report" represents one of the four event motion pictures jointly produced by DreamWorks SKG and Fox.

Based on a story by famed science fiction writer Philip K. Dick, "Minority Report" is set in a futuristic judicial system in which killers are arrested and convicted before they commit murder.

Commented Bill Mechanic, chairman and CEO of Fox Filmed Entertainment: "`Minority Report' is one of Fox's most exciting projects, and we are thrilled that it's come together with a terrific script and a firm start date. We are eagerly anticipating the magic that Steven Spielberg and Tom Cruise will create when the film goes into production next year."

The project was developed by Twentieth Century Fox Film Group president Tom Rothman. Jon Cohen wrote the initial screenplay draft, which Scott Frank ("Out of Sight") has rewritten. Twentieth Century Fox is a unit of Fox Filmed Entertainment, a unit of Fox Entertainment Group Inc.

DreamWorks SKG was formed in October 1994 by its three principal partners -- Steven Spielberg, Jeffrey Katzenberg and David Geffen -- to produce live-action motion pictures; animated feature films and television programs; network, syndicated and cable television programming; home video entertainment; records; books; toys; consumer products; and interactive entertainment.
