This three-quarter-length royal blue crepe evening dress decorated with matching bugle beads (est. $60/80,000) is labeled "Ceil Chapman". A matching long sleeve bolero jacket with bugle bead edging accompanies the dress. The jacket is labeled "Hollywood Wilkes Barre, PA." This is one of the dresses that Marilyn Monroe wore when singing for the troops stationed in Korea. She gave live performances to more than 100,000 troops in a four-day period. The shows were a huge success. As Monroe left her final performance, she told the crowd, "This is my first experience with a live audience...and my greatest experience with any kind of audience. It's been the best thing that ever happened to me." Included among the illustrations is a photo of Marilyn wearing this dress or an identical dress also worn on the tour. She was known to have often purchased multiple identical outfits.
