AUSTIN, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000
Broadwing Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of Broadwing Inc. (NYSE:BRW), announced today that it will use leading-edge optical transmission network products from Corvis to enhance its Advanced Services Platform on its national fiber network.
By combining the Broadwing new-fiber 16,888 route mile network with Corvis' optical routing and transmission technologies, Broadwing will be able to more rapidly and efficiently add capacity for its customers on demand - where and when they need it. As a result, these customers will be able to take advantage of new applications and services even more quickly than previously imagined.
"Business customers need an advanced high-speed network that is capable of providing the next generation of broadband services," said Rick Pontin, president and COO of Broadwing Communications. "Corvis' products will give Broadwing the flexibility to rapidly deliver greatly expanded network capacity required for our customers' broadband applications needs without costly network re-provisioning."
"We're pleased and excited to be working with a partner such as Broadwing, a leader in providing customers with next-generation broadband applications and services," said Dr. David Huber, president and CEO of Corvis. "Combining our industry-leading CorWave products with Broadwing's state-of-the-art network will enhance Broadwing's customer offering of the fastest, most reliable broadband services in the industry."
The fiber optics being deployed in Broadwing's network utilize state-of-the-art, non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber that enables the support of all current and foreseen technologies, including dense wave division multiplexing, a process that allows significant increases in the speed and volume of information carried across the network.
