MALVERN, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000
Company's QIP Solution Leads the Pack with 40 Percent
Market Share for Stand-alone IP Address Management Software
Lucent Technologies (NYSE: LU) today announced that its QIP(R) Internet Protocol (IP) address management software has been ranked the worldwide number one market share leader for stand-alone IP address management products, according to a report issued today by International Data Corp., a leading market research firm in Framingham, Mass.
According to the IDC Bulletin entitled, "IP Address Management Software: 1999 Year in Review and 2000 Outlook," published in March 2000, Lucent earned the number one position with 40 percent market share in 1999.
"Because of the continued explosion in the scale and scope of intranets and the Internet, 1999 was the year that IP address management software in its current form hit its stride," said Elisabeth Rainge, Program Manager, Network Management for IDC. "Lucent Technologies ranked first in global market share in this rapidly changing market because it was able to push sales of its QIP Enterprise and Broadband Services products with leading Fortune 500 companies in the enterprise and service provider spaces."
"The IDC report validates that Lucent's QIP IP address management products have become staples in large enterprise and service provider organizations that need to control hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of IP addresses," said Joe D'Andrea, vice president and general manager at Lucent's IP Services Product Group, based here.
MCI Worldcom's UUNET, Visa USA, Discover Financial Services, Publix Supermarkets, NC State University, Georgia Pacific, and Ford Motor Co. are some of the organizations that have deployed Lucent's QIP IP address management software to manage and administer IP addresses in their burgeoning enterprise or service provider networks.
"Lucent's QIP solution is truly a world-class product that enables us to centrally manage our IP addresses, lending stability and reliability to the network," said Phil Lewis, an Internet Specialist at Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn, MI. "We are rolling out approximately 350 of Lucent's QIP Domain Name Server and Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol servers to manage our expanding network infrastructure."
IDC also discusses in the report that IP address management products are evolving into a new category of directory-based software solutions called user/identity management products, which are able to manage specific network devices and users relying on Virtual Private Network, mobile computing and E-commerce services.
Lucent's QIP products already address this emerging user/identity management market. For example, the QIP Enterprise and Broadband Services products integrate with Lucent's RealNet(TM) Rules policy management software as well as Service Level Agreement (SLA) and billing add-on modules to track users, subscribers and IP devices.
