SAN DIEGO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 27, 2000
SkyDesk (formerly @Backup), the premier provider of complete Internet storage solutions, and Excite@Home (Nasdaq: ATHM), the leader in broadband, today announced the immediate availability of SkyDesk's @Backup online backup service for easy, automatic, and secure data protection for @Home subscribers.
The three-year agreement between SkyDesk and Excite@Home names SkyDesk as the exclusive file backup vendor for the @Home service, giving @Home subscribers the option to subscribe to @Backup for secure online file backup. SkyDesk's @Backup protects a subscriber's files automatically and on demand every single day by scanning the hard drive to detect even the smallest changes made to critical files. The data is then compressed and encrypted twice prior to being transmitted to multiple, safe, off-site locations. Once stored, users can find, select and retrieve files quickly from any browser-enabled PC whenever they choose.
"SkyDesk offers @Home subscribers a time-saving data protection solution that complements the fast speed of the broadband service," said Jim Till, Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing at SkyDesk. "@Backup performs this critical task securely, reliably and automatically, providing peace of mind that data is always safe."
"We are excited about making SkyDesk's @Backup product available to @Home subscribers," said Byron Smith, senior vice president of the @Home service. "With SkyDesk, our subscribers have the option of securely backing-up their important files daily over the always-on @Home connection."
SkyDesk's service is available for download in the Member Services and Help areas of the @Home service. @Home subscribers receive a free 30-day trial of @Backup and have two subscription options after the free trial expires. For 100 megabytes of backup storage, a one year subscription costs $69.00 and 250 megabytes of backup storage costs $144.95 for a one year subscription. In addition to the product, there will be video tutorials on how to use the SkyDesk products.
