CHICAGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 31, 2000
U.S. News & World Report has named three DePaul University programs among the best in the country in its 2001 rankings of graduate schools released March 31. U.S. News ranked the Kellstadt Graduate School of Business part-time master of business administration (MBA) program and the College of Law's Intellectual Property (IP) and Health Law programs in the top 10 in their categories.
U.S. News ranked the business school's part-time MBA program fifth best in the nation. This is the sixth consecutive year that DePaul's part-time MBA program has been ranked among the top 10 and the second year it made the top five in this category.
Arthur Kraft, dean of the business school, attributed Kellstadt's success to innovative teaching by faculty with real world business experience and the curriculum's responsiveness to the educational needs of business professionals and their employers. Kellstadt also has been in the forefront of programs that stress education in the global economy and electronic commerce, Kraft said.
"As Kellstadt enters the 21st century, technological change, globalization and diversity are shaping the new knowledge, skills, attitudes and values that tomorrow's successful business leaders need," he said. "Since business is a dynamic field, it is critical to offer up-to-date curricula that meet the needs of the business community on a worldwide basis."
The College of Law's IP program was ranked sixth in the nation, marking its debut in the top 10 list of IP programs.
Established in 1998, the IP program offers certificates in patent law and general IP studies. Of the more than 25 intellectual property course offerings, many are unique, such as an intellectual property section of trial advocacy, international intellectual property, cultural heritage and specially designed legal writing classes.
DePaul's Health Law program, which consistently has been recognized by U.S. News, was ranked in the top 10 in its category by the survey as well.
College of Law Dean Teree E. Foster sees the distinctions as the fruits of collective efforts. "This recognition reflects the outstanding faculty, student and alumni effort that continues to drive these programs," said Foster. "The faculty members are energetic and highly capable, the curricula are challenging and the legal community is eager to support programs that supply quality, well-trained lawyers."
The U.S. News rankings are based on a variety of criteria gathered in an extensive annual survey of graduate school deans and program directors. The full graduate school rankings are available on-line at the Web address www.usnews.com as of March 31 and will be available in the forthcoming U.S. News "America's Best Graduate Schools" guidebook. Selected rankings also will appear in the magazine's April 3 issue.
