IRVINE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 6, 2000

ATL Products, a Quantum Company (NYSE:DSS) and leading supplier of intelligent DLTtape(TM) automation for networked computers, Monday announced that Creative Meeting Services (CMS), a Los Angeles-based corporate communication/production agency, recently completed installation of its LANvault remote site backup system.

CMS decided to purchase ATL's LANvault(TM) after losing several months worth of critical data, including extensive graphics and video that was central to their business.

"The impact was devastating -- we are a major production company, with urgent deadlines, and couldn't afford to spend hours going back and trying to recreate everything," said Diana Zimmerman, president of CMS. "We are living proof of the need for a reliable backup system."

A major selling feature of LANvault for CMS was its web-based console with remote site access. "We don't have the luxury of a full-time onsite IT person, and LANvault allows us to have our outside vendor manage the system from their office," said Zimmerman.

LANvault was designed for companies that are experiencing explosive growth of remote data, and are dependent upon this critical data residing outside the control of central IS. The amount of data at remote sites is typically doubling on an annual basis due to the proliferation of database, Email and web servers at remote sites such as retail outlets, manufacturing plants, auto dealerships and bank branches.

Zimmerman feels strongly that many other small to medium businesses have a need for the remote site backup solution LANvault offers. Key examples are companies that have a large need for visual storage, such as film companies and movie studios, many of which have editing facilities at one location and vast amounts of video stored at another site.

Another important feature of LANvault is its ease of installation -- going from "box to backup" in minutes, with a high-performance DLTtape library integrated with a dedicated backup hardware and fully configured software server that simply plugs into Ethernet.

"Our installation was as smooth as silk," added Zimmerman. "It took longer to reboot the NT system than it did to install LANvault."

Each backup appliance is pre-loaded with either CA(R) ARCserve(c)IT(TM) or VERITAS(c)(R) Backup Exec(TM) industry-standard backup software. CMS selected VERITAS Backup Exec because of its ease of use and technology leadership as well as its vendor support.

"Through its availability with key partners, such as Quantum/ATL, or as a stand-alone product, VERITAS Backup Exec continues to stand out in the industry as the market-leading backup and recovery solution for environments running Windows NT and Windows 2000," said Mike Garcia, senior product manager, VERITAS Software.

"CMS' decision to select VERITAS Backup Exec over the competition exemplifies that, when faced with an option, customers are going to choose the solution that is easy-to-use and combines the most powerful feature set with the highest performance."

CMS is a full-service corporate communications/production agency specializing in business presentation technology, from satellite broadcasts to business meetings, press conferences, road tours, trade shows, film and video production. Clients include IBM, Intel, Hewlett-Packard, Seagate Technology, AST Computers, Mitsubishi, Toshiba, Continental Airlines, Chevron and Dole Foods.
