DCM Reaches Pinnacle of the SEI's Stringent Capability Maturity Model
DCM Technologies, the premier supplier of intellectual property and design services for the computing and communications industries, proudly announces that it has been recognized by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI) at Carnegie Mellon University as having the highest quality software development processes. DCM Technologies achieved Level 5 assessment, the pinnacle of the SEI's stringent Capability Maturity Model (CMM) that defines the maturity of software development processes on a scale from one to five. DCM Technologies joins an elite group of software development companies worldwide, estimated by the SEI as approximately thirty in the world, that have reached the top level of the CMM.
According to the SEI, the CMM was created in response to the tremendous need for organizations to be able to develop quality software efficiently and consistently. It is organized as a set of maturity levels that organizations achieve as they progress toward more consistent and effective software development. The SEI considers Level 5 organizations as learning organizations that exist in a culture of excellence in both software engineering and management. DCM Technologies has the unique distinction of achieving SEI CMM Level 5 for both its software, as well as its ASIC design processes.
"We have worked very diligently to ensure that the software/ASIC design that DCM Technologies develops conforms to the highest standards in quality," said Kamal Mansharamani, chief operating officer of DCM Technologies. "We have been committed to the SEI CMM process for over four years. All along the way, the industry and our customers have benefited greatly from the results of our hard work."
To achieve higher levels in the SEI CMM assessment, managers must monitor the quality of their software products and customer satisfaction in a quantitative manner and have continuous refinements built into their development process. The CMM progresses from the first level, where very few processes are defined, to basic project management levels, where certain processes begin to be put into place, all the way up to well managed, high-quality software development efforts. When a company reaches CMM Level 5, the SEI recognizes that the organization has achieved continuous process improvement through quantitative management of its software process. As part of the standard development methodology of Level 5 organizations, processes such as change management and technology change management are religiously implemented.
