DoubleClick (Nasdaq:DCLK), the global Internet advertising solutions company, today announced the appointment of seven members to its Consumer Privacy Advisory Board, an independent board of consumer advocates, security experts and authorities in the field of online privacy.
The following members(a) join Robert Abrams, former New York State Attorney General and a partner at the New York law firm Stroock & Stroock & Lavan, who was appointed Chairman of the Privacy Board in March by DoubleClick:
-- Lori Fena, Chairman and co-founder, TRUSTe
-- Daniel J. Weitzner, Technology & Society Domain Leader, World
Wide Web Consortium
-- Elizabeth Lascoutx, Director, Children's Advisory Review Unit
and Vice President, Council of Better Business Bureaus

The Board, which will meet for the first time on June 2nd, will make recommendations on how DoubleClick can improve privacy procedures. It will examine issues ranging from Internet privacy and security to online ethics.
"This Board is made up of an excellent cross section of consumer advocates and online privacy experts," said Robert Abrams, Chairman of the Consumer Privacy Advisory Board. "I am excited to begin the Board's work of advising DoubleClick on how they can live up to the highest standards of protecting consumer privacy."
With today's announcement, DoubleClick is fulfilling its five-point privacy initiative announced in March. The company launched the Internet Privacy Education Campaign, one of the largest public education efforts in Internet history by sponsoring 100 million banner advertisements linking users to www.privacychoices.org, a web-site dedicated to giving consumers information about their privacy rights.
DoubleClick also announced that it would only do business in the future with U.S. Web publishers that have privacy policies and that it has hired PricewaterhouseCoopers, LLP to conduct an independent audit so that consumers can be confident that DoubleClick is living up to its privacy policies. Also, DoubleClick appointed former New York City Consumer Affairs Commissioner, Jules Polonetsky to the post of Chief Privacy Officer(CPO). The position of CPO was created by DoubleClick to act as an ombudsman for Internet users, to work with clients to institute and police their privacy policies and to educate the public regarding the company's commitment to online privacy. Polonetsky reports directly to DoubleClick's Board of Directors.
"We have put together a strong and diverse group of experts who will be instrumental in helping DoubleClick address the critical privacy issues that affect our business," said Jules Polonetsky, Chief Privacy Officer of DoubleClick. "As DoubleClick moves forward with its mission to deliver effective online advertising, this Board will be an important voice in ensuring that the company strives for the highest privacy standards."
