MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 2, 2000

Legato Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:LGTO), the leader in enterprise storage management software, today announced the first classroom training offered through Legato Systems' SAN Academy(SM). During the months of May and June, Legato SAN Academy offers a day of SAN training at select cities throughout the United States.

This training series will cover, in one day, the material offered in SAN 101, SAN 110, and a new course, SAN 120. SAN 101 provides a technical foundation for understanding SANs, SAN 110 examines SAN data protection options for LAN-free and serverless backup in detail, and SAN 120 explores the fundamentals of SAN high availability solutions.

"Our web-based SAN courses have over 98% satisfaction ratings and have been viewed by over 5,000 industry users or vendors," said Nora Denzel, senior vice president, Legato Systems. "To supplement the web-based courses, and meet the needs of people who cannot attend our sessions on-line, we are taking SAN Academy on the road."

Legato SAN Academy web-based courses are free and can be "attended" at a time that works best for the participant. Many participants have expressed interest in a day of local training, for it is difficult for them to find dedicated hours in a busy workday to attend the self-paced courses. Like any course, SAN Academy courses offer the most value when they can be attended with no distractions.

"Between my supervisor responsibilities and having too many No. 1 priorities, I am hard-pressed to string 15 minutes together in my office without an interruption, a scheduled meeting, or a new brush-fire that becomes another new first priority," said Greg Bryant, Water Resources Geographic Information Systems Coordinator at Denver Water. "My attempts at running computer-based training have typically failed due to this lack of opportunity for consistent attention. Getting away from the office for a day assists me greatly in completing a training course."

SAN Academy is coming to the following eight cities across the U.S.:

5/30 Chicago, IL at the Hyatt Regency O'Hare (Rosemont) 6/1 Denver, CO at the Hyatt Regency Tech Center 6/5 Santa Clara, CA at the Marriott 6/7 Irvine, CA at the Hyatt Regency Irvine 6/9 Los Angeles, CA at the LA Airport Marriott 6/12 Falls Church, VA at the Fairview Park Marriott 6/14 Newark, NJ at the Newark Marriott 6/16 Manhattan, NY at the Marriott Marquis

Each session will offer breakfast and lunch, as well as SAN Academy mementos. Attendees will also have the opportunity to win a Palm Pilot V(TM) personal organizer and learn about SAN products from our sponsors, ADIC, Ancor, IBM, Overland Data, and QLogic.
