MILPITAS, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 22, 2000
Quantum Corporation's DLT & Storage Systems Group (NYSE:DSS), the leader in high-performance solid state storage solutions for the NT and UNIX server marketplace, today announced the launch of their next generation solid state storage product, the Rushmore(TM) eSystem Accelerator (eSA).
The Rushmore eSA technology dramatically expedites Web page access and e-Commerce transactions, allowing e-Commerce providers the ability to meet and exceed increasing expectations for high-speed transactions and rapid response times demanded by online users today.
The Rushmore eSA is a comprehensive set of hardware, tools, services, and consulting bundled into one inclusive package. With breakthrough semiconductor and controller technology, the Rushmore eSA significantly increases system performance in e-Commerce infrastructures while ensuring higher throughput with less hardware. In a benchmarking test, five servers and one Rushmore eSA did the work of twenty-five Web server machines, lowering acquisition, support, and space costs while improving reliability.
The Rushmore eSA can be used at three different levels of an e-Commerce system configuration: Web caching devices and Internet firewalls at the front end, hot data, logging and indexing in the middle, and Web page serving at the back end. The Rushmore eSA delivers data access times of less than 25 microseconds (us) for most time-critical applications. In a financial trading application, the Rushmore eSA has demonstrated significant application results: it increased processed order volumes from 1-2 per second to 20-30 per second.
iPrint.com, the leading online print shop and business print portal, increased throughput by 400 percent while reducing queue response times on their Web site by 95 percent. Dave Hodson, vice president of technology for iPrint.com said, "We needed performance...plugging in the Rushmore eSA made an immediate order of magnitude difference. In fact, we just put the Rushmore eSA in the server, put the server back online and queue times immediately fell by 95 percent. That enables us to handle an additional 10,000 visitors a day with the same hardware."
According to Charlie Cassidy, vice president and manager of Quantum's Solid State Business Unit, "The Rushmore eSystem Accelerator is a comprehensive package of proven technology and services that will immediately distinguish one e-Commerce provider from another. An e-Commerce provider will only survive this exploding industry if they can deliver the rapid response time and system reliability demanded by today's marketplace."
The Rushmore eSA is a plug-and-play solution that has been tested on all major platforms and is compatible with NT, UNIX, and LINUX. The Rushmore eSA can be added without system interruption resulting in maximum system access.
The official launch and demonstration of the Rushmore eSystem Accelerator will take place at the Application Service Provider Convention (ASPCON), Booth 1226, in Orlando, Florida, May 23-25.
