for Handheld Marketplace;
Helps Enterprise Clients Manage Total Cost of Ownership-
CompuCom Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq:CMPC), a leading infrastructure solutions provider, today announced it is providing advanced configuration, mass customization and user profile databases for Palm HotSync(R) Server and handheld computer products from Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq:Palm). The announcement formally launches CompuCom's systems integration offering for handhelds and related wireless communication products.
CompuCom will provide configuration and systems integration services and onsite installation for Palm HotSync Server software, and mass-customization and synchronization of Palm(TM) handhelds down to individual user profiles. As handhelds become more prevalent, CompuCom's customized outsourcing and systems integration solutions allow IT executives to better manage their distributed assets and mission critical information, and reduce the need for additional resources otherwise necessary to manage and support handheld computer implementations and profiles.
"Customers need the ability to deploy the latest handheld technologies in a simple, cost-effective manner," says Chuck Yort, vice president, business and government for Palm, Inc. "CompuCom's integration services offer companies increased and robust access to their corporate data, further extending the Palm Economy and broadening the reach of mobile computing."
According to GartnerGroup's 1999 report entitled 'TCO for PDAs: Higher than Expected,' TCO analysis shows that technical support, asset tracking and synchronization activities could significantly raise handheld computer TCO.
"CompuCom's configuration, integration and synchronization solutions allow companies deploying handhelds a competitive advantage and ensures superior management of critical data from any location," said Ed Coleman, CompuCom chief executive officer. "Our outsourcing and systems integration for handhelds is simply another extension of CompuCom's infrastructure solutions that help optimize our clients' E-business and enterprise applications environment."
CompuCom also provides IT consulting and IT outsourcing for Fortune 1000 clients, emerging digital businesses and leading systems integrators.
