PHOENIX--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 4, 2000
(Hypercom Corporation) (NYSE:HYC) Visa Jordan Card Services plans to deploy Hypercom(R) ePic ICE(TM) 5000 high-speed, touch screen-based card payment terminals to increase its Jordanian electronic card acceptance network. The terminals will be used at medium to large sized retail merchants operating across this country in the food, hospitality and tourist market sectors. The number of terminal devices initially planned is 1,000. Hypercom ICE (Interactive Consumer Equipment) 5000 terminals are already installed at the Jordan Hyatt Regency, Inter-Continental and Marriott hotels and Safeway food stores.
Mrs. Simona Bashouti, acting general manager, Visa Jordan Card Services explains, "We chose the Hypercom ICE 5000 because of three main factors: its strong state-of-the-art feature set, certified smart card support and its easy to use touch screen interface."
Mrs. Inam Shafakouj, assistant general manager, Visa Jordan Card Services, continues, "We have worked with Hypercom and their local distributor STS for a number of years and have been particularly impressed with the high reliability of the Hypercom equipment, extremely fast authorization timings achieved and the quality of support received. We are delighted to extend our relationship with Hypercom as we expand our card acceptance network to make it easy for both Jordanian citizens and foreign visitors to use their Visa cards to pay for all kind of goods and services in Jordan."
Hypercom's ePic ICE 5000 is a powerful, multi-function touch screen-based payment terminal incorporating a high-speed thermal printer, paper cutter, and Hypercom FastPOS(TM) 9600 bits per second (bps) modem technology that lets merchants complete transactions in under six seconds.
Hypercom's ICE 5000 provides a highly interactive and intuitive user interface that allows the support of complex transactions and multiple applications with minimum user training. In addition to traditional credit and debit functions, the ICE 5000 supports payment options such as smart cards and new business opportunities including loyalty management systems.
When used in concert with Hypercom's ePicPortz(TM) software, the ePic (ePOS-infocommerce(TM)) ICE 5000 also enables merchants to access a range of Internet-based services including: e-mail, on-screen advertising, interactive electronic coupons, electronic receipt capture and storage and merchant e-commerce functions through a standard browser.
"Hypercom's Internet-enabled ICE 5000 terminal is the most technically-advanced, easy-to-use and value-packed electronic transaction terminal available," comments Rob Meli, managing director, Hypercom Europe. "It is an ideal platform for Visa Jordan Card Services to introduce new banking services to retailers and cardholders as it supports both the Internet and smart cards."
Visa Jordan Card Services already rely on Hypercom T7P and T77 terminal models for card acceptance at their retail merchants and utilise a Hypercom IEN (Integrated Enterprise Networking) backbone network, with long distance X.25 connections, to ensure fast, reliable and cost effective transaction delivery.
