World Leader in Storage Solutions to Supply
SmartRAID VI Technology in Intel-based PRIMERGY Servers
Adaptec, Inc. (NASDAQ:ADPT), the global leader in innovative storage solutions, today announced that Fujitsu Siemens Computers will be including Adaptec SmartRAID VI Decade controllers within its PRIMERGY Server product line, covering the full line of Intel-based, multiprocessor servers. Target markets for the PRIMERGY product line include workgroup, branch office and data center servers.
"Our full-featured Decade is the world's first shipping Ultra160 SCSI hardware RAID controller, and it's ideally suited for the 'perpetual computing' storage requirements of the Fujitsu Siemens Computers PRIMERGY line," said Lee Caswell, vice president of the OEM Solutions Group at Adaptec. "Adaptec provides a world-class RAID solution with the reliability and future expansion options Fujitsu Siemens Computers needs."
The perfect complement to the PRIMERGY server products in terms of ease-of-integration and management, Adaptec's SmartRAID VI provides complete RAID storage features for small business servers or power workstations. The SmartRAID VI Decade RAID controller provides two 160MB/s SCSI channels, enabling substantial performance increases by striping data across both channels. Developed to meet the needs of server-scale environments, this Adaptec RAID solution features an embedded Intel i960 RISC processor to reduce host CPU utilization and a hardware accelerator module that can support up to 128MB of ECC-protected cache memory.
Fujitsu Siemens Computers has integrated Adaptec's SmartRAID VI Decade controller into ServerView and RemoteView, the server management tools for the PRIMERGY Server product line, providing the user an easy way to monitor, configure and manage the PRIMERGY Server and the RAID storage subsystem.
About RAID
The acronym "RAID" stands for Redundant Array of Inexpensive (or "Independent") Disks. RAID is a method of combining several disk drives into a single logical storage unit. RAID offers the advantage of fault tolerance by providing real-time data recovery when a disk drive fails, increasing system uptime and network availability. RAID also increases system performance when multiple drives work together. To learn more about Adaptec's RAID solutions refer to http://www.adaptec.com/gotraid.
