LEXINGTON, Mass.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 9, 2000
Moldflow Corporation (NASDAQ: MFLO), the world's leader in process wide plastic solutions, announces www.plasticszone.com, the premiere e-business and productivity site for professionals working with injection molded plastics. The site provides an array of products such as iMPA, a fully functional electronic version of Moldflow's award winning Part Adviser product.
While plastics analysis has long been within reach for large organizations, most small and medium sized companies have traditionally not been able to justify the purchase of the software required to analyze CAD solid models. Moldflow recognizes the need to service this expanding market with an affordable analysis product that offers all of the features of the new generation of easy to use analysis packages. The company's iMPA - the first Application Service Provider (ASP) analysis package for injection molded plastics--is accessible via the Internet. The ASP delivery system allows users to purchase a license to run an analysis on a specific solid model directly on the user's computer in real-time.
Moldflow's new, patent pending technology allows the application to be run on the user's computer system instead of on an ASPs computer system. As a result of this breakthrough, no large proprietary data file is ever required to be sent over a public network. Instead, a user downloads the executable to their desktop, opens a model, chooses a material and gates location, then goes back to the plasticszone to pay and receive on-line authorization to begin the analysis. This enables the simulation to run on a specific model geometry on an unlimited basis.
Ken Welch, Moldflow's vice-president of marketing, says, "In today's fiercely competitively global marketplace, manufacturers feel tremendous pressure to improve productivity and enhance product quality. We've now leveled the playing field by offering iMPA. Now everyone has access to world-class technology that enables them to perform valuable flow analyses early in the design cycle. Design issues that previously would have caused bottlenecks downstream can be eliminated. Costly errors and guesswork are yesterday's practices. The use of iMPA and other new web-based solutions from Moldflow will change the way new products are designed and manufactured. The launch of plasticszone.com demonstrates our commitment to providing affordable web-based technologies that will continue to help manufacturers slash time-to-market and remain competitive."
Users navigating the site will encounter four activity zones including Simulation, Material, Consulting, and Events.
The Simulation Zone provides an Internet-enabled version of award-winning Moldflow Part Adviser (iMPA). The technology allows users to conduct plastics flow analysis over the Internet because iMPA product contains all the functionality of Moldflow's Part Adviser product.
iMPA is offered as a pay-per-use option--unlimited use for single model geometry. The site offers secure, easy to use credit card transaction processing. A special iMPA preview license is currently available for $49.95. After the promotion, a license fee of $349.95 will enable users to perform unlimited analysis on a single model. The website is open for business at www.plasticszone.com.
Dave Stockbower, Millipore Corporation designer, adds, "iMPA is a valued-added benefit for companies that require analysis on critical models but not for every model. For companies that cannot justify investing in the technology for occasional use only, taking advantage of iMPA is a highly cost-effective approach to reaping the rewards of state-of-the-art analysis."
The Materials Zone provides a materials calculator that allows users to determine optimal polymers for parts and enables users to order testing services on new materials from Moldflow.
The Consulting Zone provides consulting services for troubleshooting, performance of more challenging analyses, and other types of plastic injection molding projects.
The Events Zone offers a listing of upcoming seminars and training courses related to plastic injection molding processes and the software solutions that can help designers and engineers become more productive.
Welch adds, "The Internet is becoming the single most powerful tool for delivering goods and services. Moldflow is committed to developing plasticszone.com as a premiere source for technology, consulting services, and a host of other solutions that add value across enterprises. iMPA is a compelling first of many breakthroughs that will become essential tools for manufacturers and the supply chain."
