OREM, Utah--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 1, 2000
Caldera Systems Inc. (Nasdaq: CALD) Wednesday announced the new name of its Linux management solution: Caldera Volution (Volution).
The product, currently in open beta, was formerly known by its internal codename "Cosmos," and is available for download from Caldera's Web site at www.calderasystems.com/beta.
> Volution is a browser- and directory-based management product for Linux systems that utilizes the inherent strengths of LDAP directories. Using Volution, network administrators can create policies and profiles to manage a half dozen or thousands of Linux systems, without having to individually manage/touch each."Caldera Volution combines two words, evolution and velocity, which describe the impact we believe this product will have," said Ransom Love, president and chief executive officer of Caldera Systems Inc.
"In order for Linux to continue its evolution at a greater velocity, there is a great need for a solution that reduces the time, cost and effort required to manage Linux servers and desktops. During this open beta period we're finding a number of Fortune 500 companies whose network administrators need this kind of product to manage their systems."
Volution will significantly benefit ASPs, ISPs, hosting companies, systems integrators and network administrators -- anyone needing to manage multiple Linux servers and workstations. By consolidating management functions for labor-intensive tasks, Volution dramatically reduces costs, saves time and increases job efficiency.
