LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 13, 2000
All of today's MP3 devices have one thing in common: they have to be connected to a PC to shuttle songs back and forth.
Today, DigMedia Inc., a digital music distribution company will be demonstrating its MusicStore(TM), a $499 consumer electronics device that uses a built-in CD player to convert songs to MP3s as each CD is played -- no PC required.
"The MusicStore is a truly convergent home audio device," said Pedro Vargas, a former 12-year business development veteran with Intel and current chairman and CTO of DigMedia. "An entire 200 disk CD collection can be stored, managed and edited without any knowledge of MP3s -- or computers for that matter."
The MusicStore is a tabletop home audio device that combines a CD player, hard drive, digital jukebox -- and a integrated portable MP3 player.
"Being an all-in-one unit, the transfer of music from the hard drive to the portable MP3 player is the fastest in the industry," continued Vargas. "The fastest PC-based MP3 players take 40 seconds to transfer a single song; the MusicStore does it less than a second."
Available from outpost.com and other major e-tailers and retailers across the country, the MusicStore can be transported as conveniently as a portable radio or CD player, giving consumers the ability to access almost five days' worth of audio material to enjoy at home, work or car. The MusicStore also features a built-in USB port to manage tracks from computers and the Internet.
"Our mission is to extend the reach of digital music both online and off," added Vargas. "The MusicStore is the first in our line of non-PC reliant, cellular, cable and wireless devices that we hope will broaden the market for digital music worldwide."
