LAS VEGAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 15, 2000
Companies Demonstrate Wireless Video E-Mail Application At
Intel's Software Pavilion
PacketVideo Corp., the global leader in wireless media, and Visualize Video Corp., a video network service provider, today announced a joint demonstration of wireless video messaging at COMDEX Fall 2000.
Through this demonstration, the companies will show how users with a PC Webcam can create a video/audio message from their Visualize e-mail account at www.visualizevideo.com, automatically encode the video into PacketVideo's standards based MPEG-4 format and serve the video through PacketVideo's wireless media server software to a mobile device such as a SmartPhone or personal digital assistant. Users with Outlook, Lotus Notes or Eudora loaded onto their mobile device will be able to access the video/audio message created by the Visualize/ PacketVideo application. This remarkable technology will be demonstrated by the companies in the Intel P4 Software Pavilion at Comdex (Booth L6135, Kiosk 56).
"As competition continues to increase amongst mobile operators, this powerful video messaging application will provide them with a differentiated offering," said Dr. James Brailean, president, chief technology officer and co-founder of PacketVideo. "In addition, wireless video applications such as messaging offer mobile operators a powerful new revenue opportunity with increased subscriber retention through compelling and 'sticky' services."
E-mail and instant messaging are the top applications on the Internet, with the corporate instant messaging market projected to grow from 5.5 million users worldwide in 2000 to 180 million in 2004, a growth rate of 140 percent, according to a report from market analyst International Data Corp. (IDC) in Framingham, Mass. By that time, the number of messages sent will approach 2 trillion annually, according to the report.
"Video is unquestionably one of the most compelling communications mediums in existence," said Mark Reiten, vice president of business development for Visualize. "This demonstration between PacketVideo and Visualize combines the power of video with the personalization and convenience of wireless accessibility."
