PALO ALTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 16, 2000
Enroute Inc., a leading developer and provider of immersive technology, today announced that it has joined Sony Computer Entertainment Inc.'s Tools and Middleware program.
As a Tools & Middleware provider, Enroute may now develop and offer a toolkit to authorized PlayStation 2 software developers, enabling them to build FirstPerson-formatted content into their titles.
"The FirstPerson Immersive Video format will expand the breadth of content currently being developed for home entertainment platforms," said Paul Cha, Executive Vice President of Enroute. "With the upcoming release of our toolkit, PlayStation 2 software developers will able to deliver this exciting new category of entertainment."
Enroute's proprietary FirstPerson system combines multiple video streams captured from any outward-looking camera system to create self-navigated 360-degree video formatted for playback on PCs and entertainment consoles. The standard-setting FirstPerson immersive format enables viewers to watch broadcast-quality concerts, music videos, movies, sports or special events in full motion from any angle, as if the viewer is actually within the scene directing the camera.
