SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2000

Fujitsu Technology Solutions today announced three new Intel(R) Architecture-based PRIMERGY(R) servers designed to support the growing needs of Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and Application Service Providers (ASPs) as they roll out data-intensive Internet applications and Web-related commerce.

The new PRIMERGY servers reflect Fujitsu's strategy to deliver rack-optimized products that provide low cost and save space. The TS120 and TS220 Web server platforms and the ES320 application server are now available, and are a perfect fit for ISPs and ASPs whose small- to medium-sized customers require the same service level guarantees offered to larger customers.

"Fujitsu Technology Solutions has an extremely hot idea, and the window-of-opportunity is wide open right now," said Donald Haback, partner, Matterhorn Group. "We think the PRIMERGY rack-optimized servers will fit directly with the expressed needs of the ISP and ASP communities."

According to a recent report published by International Data Corporation (IDC), the explosion of Internet-related businesses and services has propagated a rapid evolution in the form factor of Intel Architecture servers. Rack-optimized servers are emerging as one of the strongest segments for growth in the server space. According to IDC, based on recent market trends and forecasts of Internet growth, it's difficult not to be optimistic about the future for the rack-dense form factor.

Fujitsu's PRIMERGY TS120 ultra-thin net-appliance platform is a 1U (1.75" high) mass-rackable server designed for first-tier Internet usage and dedicated hosting services. Packed into an exceptionally small footprint is a powerful 800 MHz or 933 MHz Intel Pentium(R) III processor. The TS120 can be programmed, loaded, and booted remotely for easy operation and lower total cost of ownership (TCO).

The ultra-thin 1U PRIMERGY TS220 is an ideal infrastructure solution for first-tier Internet usage, shared hosting services, or as a workgroup server, when the higher performance of two 800 MHz or 933 MHz Intel Pentium III processors is required. For ASPs and ISPs, the TS220 offers quick response time and lower TCO while providing generous configuration upgradeability and flexibility.

The new PRIMERGY ES320 multi-purpose application server has a rack-optimized 4U footprint for the data center. For the office, an attractive floor standing version is also available. With the horsepower to satisfy most demanding compute environments, the ES320 offers two 1-GHz Intel Pentium III processors, 4 gigabytes of memory, and up to 192 GB of internal disk storage. It features Ultra160 SCSI onboard, the latest in Intelligent Management Panel server support, and Fast Reliable Diagnosis support. The ES320 is a powerful, flexible, scalable application server for the Internet or e-business.

These new PRIMERGY servers reflect the mission of the newly formed Fujitsu Technology Solutions to deliver the most advanced server and storage solutions to e-business and Internet-centric companies.

"The new service model is to use Internet technology to centralize computing power, share software costs, and deliver client services at guaranteed levels," said Carol Stone, vice president of Server Marketing at Fujitsu Technology Solutions. "PRIMERGY rack-optimized servers are appealing because they reduce running costs for both customers and providers, improve end-user service levels, and provide a very manageable growth alternative."

"As we continue to offer more powerful server options, it's important that we also remain focused on the varied and changing requirements of our customers," said Mr. Tatsushi Miyazawa, senior vice president and group president Computer Systems Group, Fujitsu Limited. "The use of servers is changing, they are performing a variety of new and extended roles. Data Center managers are also discovering that in revised form factors, server platforms can improve total cost of ownership as they replace previous more propriety processors and network devices."
