Leading Korean Common Carrier Deploys Foundry's High-Performance
Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet Switches and Layer 4-7 Web Switching
Solutions to Enhance Network Performance and Service Quality
Foundry Networks(R), Inc. (Nasdaq:FDRY), a leader in high-performance, end-to-end switching and routing solutions, today announced that Dacom, Korea's leading common carrier network service provider, has deployed Foundry's BigIron(R) Layer 3 switches and ServerIron(R) Internet traffic and content management switches to enhance its metropolitan network's reliability, performance and capability.
"We chose Foundry because we needed a best-of-breed, wire-speed, non-blocking Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switch and server load balancing solution to enhance the scalability and reliability of our metro service network," said Kwang-Mo Lee, team leader of Dacom. "Foundry products have rich Layer 3 and Layer 4-7 web switching functionalities which enable us to proactively manage network performance, distribute content intelligently and maintain high service availability. By leveraging Foundry's best-of-breed solutions, we are now able to deliver unmatched performance that meets the reliability needs of our current and future customers."
Dacom is utilizing Foundry's BigIron 8000 Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switch to dramatically reduce performance bottlenecks with wire-speed IP routing. Foundry's complete Metropolitan network solutions including Long-Haul Gigabit Ethernet, Global Ethernet, Packet Over SONET (POS) and Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM), are aimed specifically at satisfying the exploding bandwidth requirements of fast-growing Metropolitan service providers and carriers, such as Dacom.
Based on Foundry's unique IronCore(TM) architecture and IronWare(TM) Internet scale routing platform, the BigIron Layer 3 Gigabit Ethernet switches deliver up to 178,000,000 packets per second routing performance for reliable packet delivery even under the heaviest of Internet traffic loads. Dacom selected Foundry technology based on its superiority in routing functionality, product reliability and industry-leading performance.
In addition, Dacom has deployed Foundry's ServerIron Layer 4-7 Web switches providing transparent cache switching functionality. Combined with Dacom's cache server farms, Foundry's cache switching solution enables Dacom to significantly enhance content delivery performance and user experience.
Foundry's ServerIron family of Web switches provide sophisticated Internet traffic and content management features, including server load balancing, URL and cookie-based switching, global server load balancing, firewall load balancing and transparent cache switching. Powered by Internet IronWare, ServerIron Web switches lead the industry in performance, price/performance, switching intelligence and port density.
"We are pleased to have been selected by Dacom as a provider of high-performance network infrastructure solutions for its Korean metropolitan area service network," said Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks. "This once again re-affirms Foundry's position as one of the leading Metropolitan Area Network (MAN) infrastructure providers," concluded Johnson.
