SACRAMENTO, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2000

Forty-six outstanding curriculum programs in California's public schools have been awarded honors in the 21st Annual Golden Bell Awards program of the California School Boards Association.

The highly respected Golden Bell Awards will be presented during CSBA's Annual Education Conference at an awards luncheon at the Westin Long Beach on Saturday, Dec. 2, from noon to 1:45 p.m.

"At CSBA, we are extremely proud to recognize excellence in education," said CSBA President Jeff Horton. "It is the leadership and commitment of these school districts and county offices of education that makes possible these winning programs."

Identifying exemplary programs serves as a way to share information about effective educational strategies. The Golden Bell Awards program also serves to boost confidence in public education by focusing attention on successes in our schools.

This year, 230 entries in 20 categories were received. Experts from school districts, county offices of education and the California Department of Education comprised the 12-member judging panel.

Programs must have been in operation for at least two years to be eligible for entry in the awards program. They must be innovative and/or exemplary and have made a measurable difference for students as evidenced in classroom portfolios, standardized testing, demonstrations, simulations, problem-solving situations and student attendance. Additionally, programs must be committed to serve all students and communicate with the community about how the program works.

See below for complete list of award winners, by county.

NOTE: Reporters are encouraged to contact the award-winning program(s) in their area.
