Caldera's certification of Oracle on Caldera OpenLinux provides a powerful, low-cost Internet application development and deployment platform by optimizing compatibility and performance of Oracle platforms with and on Linux.
"We recognized early on the tremendous potential of Linux - not to mention great interest in the new technology," said Doug Kennedy, vice president, SHV Systems Division, Oracle. "By offering the stability, openness and value that rivals any other operating system, Caldera OpenLinux is a popular choice for eBusiness.
"We have, by moving quickly to be one of the first companies to offer our entire suite of enterprise products on the operating system, gained a true advantage."
Promotions for free Oracle software through Caldera further demonstrate both companies' dedication to Linux for business.
"Caldera's pioneering focus on 'Linux for Business' has positioned it as a leader in eBusiness infrastructure," said Ransom Love, president and chief executive officer of Caldera Systems Inc.
"Working together with a worldwide leader like Oracle extends that leadership, particularly in enterprise-class applications. It also enhances Caldera's ability to give the expanding technological market what it needs and wants by delivering specific services and tools to assist ISVs of all types in porting their applications to Linux."
Because Linux, the choice platform for developers worldwide, is the fastest growing operating system, Caldera and Oracle offer migration documentation, software development tools, and educational materials, such as Web Seminars, to assist in the port to Linux.
Caldera and Oracle co-sponsored a live Internet Web Seminar to ISVs/Developers on Aug. 29. During the presentation an interactive survey was conducted with an 82 percent response rate. Forty-seven percent of respondents represented companies with 100 employees; 50 percent of respondents have already implemented Linux solutions; and 45 percent of respondents plan to port their existing suite of applications to Linux within the next six months.
Caldera supports Oracle's interest in Linux by advertising free product CDs of Oracle8i and Oracle iAS on its Web site, www.calderasystems.com/partners/industry/oracle.html. In addition, promotions for free software may be found in Caldera's OpenLinux eServer 2.3 product packages.
