BURNABY, B.C.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 18, 2000

Merlin Software Technologies International Inc. (OTCBB:MLSW), a leading developer of Linux based software applications and utilities today announced the release of PerfectBACKUP+ v7.0 Beta release for RedHat 6.2 and 7.0.

PerfectBACKUP+ v7.0 is a full-featured network backup utility for Linux servers and workstations. It provides automated full system backup and recovery, backup packages and scheduling, data encryption, compression, enhanced recovery and a robotics module that supports a broad range of tape libraries. PerfectBACKUP+ v7.0 extends the use of the wizard tool to ease system backup and restore for novice users and provides all around improvement in performance and device support.

Reviews from a number of different industry experts writing for Federal Computer Week, Linux Gamers Domain, and most recently SCO World Magazine, among others have been positive. At $69 for the download version and $89 for the retail package and manual, PerfectBACKUP+ is an excellent buy.

The system administrator at a major dairy corporation recently had this to say, "We have been using one of your competitors product for a while and would like to use yours for a while. From your online manual I think it will perform nicely. P.S. Your manual beats the pants off BXX and X11 BXX."

"This is an exciting time for us." said Robert Heller, president of Merlin. "We have been working hard on adding features and responding to the suggestions of our users. With the announcement of this beta release we are serving notice to our competitors that they had better keep an eye on Merlin in the future."

Merlin recently announced that it would be porting PerfectBACKUP+ to FreeBSD, RedHat Linux SPARC and Alpha, Solaris SPARC and Intel and MAC OS/X beginning with release 7.0

Companies interested in participating in the beta program should use their browser to go to http://MerlinSofTech.com/pbeta.html where registrations will be accepted beginning Oct. 19, 2000. Each beta program participant will receive one free product license including support and upgrades for a year. Further announcements regarding beta releases for other Linux distributions including Caldera OpenLinux eServer and eDesktop, TurboLinux Workstation and Server, S.u.S.E., Mandrake, Slackware, and Corel are expected in the near future.

IDC reported at a recent conference that the storage management industry reached $5 Billion dollars in 1999 and is expected to grow to $13-$14 Billion by 2004. The backup and restore segment of this market, where Merlin's PerfectBACKUP+ is targeted, was approximately $2.5 Billion for 1999 and is expected to grow at 17% compounded annually through 2004.
