Security Initiative Safeguards Subscribers From the Effects of Virus

Booth Number 13, Cavalieri Hilton
Trend Micro Inc. (Nasdaq:TMIC, TSE: 4704), a leading provider of enterprise antivirus and content security, has entered into an agreement with Grupo Intercom, one of Spain's leading Internet communications companies, making it the first Spanish ISP to protect its subscribers from email-borne computer viruses. Computer viruses such as the "Loveletter" virus that travel in email attachments are a real threat to businesses. By offering virus protection to its subscribers, Grupo Intercom plays a leading role in Internet security in Spain.
The agreement enables Grupo Intercom, which is owned by the British multinational Cable & Wireless, to offer its customers two services using Trend Micro's award-winning InterScan(R) VirusWall(R) technology. The first service offers virus protection which works within the Grupo Intercom network operating centre (NOC), scanning email attachments for viruses and malicious code and removing this unwanted threat before it reaches the end-user's computer. One feature of this service is that there is no software for subscribers to download or install since Grupo Intercom will be installing and maintaining protection at their NOC. The second service, HouseCall(TM), allows Grupo Intercom subscribers to scan their computers online, at no charge, by visiting a Grupo Intercom web page (www.intercom.es). Users simply click the relevant icon to start scanning and HouseCall detects virus-infected files and cleans or deletes them from the user's system using the most up-to-date protection available.
"These antivirus services widen the operational scope of Grupo Intercom and position us as the first ISP in the Spanish market to resolve the problem of viruses," says Joaquim Falgueras, General Manager of Grupo Intercom. "By using Trend Micro's advanced technology, it is very easy for us to reach our targets and provide a secure Internet for users."
"People are spending more and more time online and using email to communicate with friends and business associates," says Dennis Tsou, Senior Vice President of Trend Micro. "Given the impact of viruses like the recent "Loveletter" virus, it is critical that virus protection be built into the Internet infrastructure in order to protect users from these types of threats. As a member of the eDoctor(TM) Global Network, Grupo Intercom is taking a leadership role in building this virus protection infrastructure."
