SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 2, 2000
LECCOTECH, a global developer of database performance optimization software, chose the opening of the Oracle OpenWorld 2000 (OOW) conference and exposition here Monday to announce the new Version 2.4 of its powerful LECCO SQL Expert(TM) SQL performance optimization software for Oracle databases.
LECCO SQL Expert is a powerful yet easy-to-use, Windows-based client software tool that identifies, evaluates and rewrites problematic structured query language (SQL) statements in order to optimize database transaction performance. LECCOTECH's unique Feedback-Searching engine uses artificial intelligence technology to detect the indexes and data structure of the user database, then uses this information to rewrite input SQL statements, tailored to the database environment providing highest performing SQL statements possible that are guaranteed to return correct results.
The new version 2.4 provides enhanced cross-reference and summary information features within the SQL Editor and Database Explorer modules that make it easier for application developers and database administrators (DBAs) to analyze applications and database schema, both in the development and production phases of deployment.
"A new Table Browser function within the Database Explorer module displays table rows so that users can easily access detailed object information -- such as object definition, column, index and data -- without having to actually write and execute any SQL statements," explained Stephen Wong, LECCOTECH president and CEO. "This is a much more convenient analysis tool for verifying that correct values have been inserted in the rewritten statement."
The SQL Editor has been enhanced to include direct navigation to object information in the Database Explorer, right from the Execution Plan window. This makes execution plan analysis much easier to accomplish by providing direct access to detailed object information within the Database Explorer simply by pointing and clicking on the Execution Plan text itself.
"In addition, the Database Explorer module has been enhanced with new point-and-click navigation tabs that help users to more quickly view summary reference information simply by clicking on an object in an object list," Wong added. "The new features provide a preview summary of all objects as well as lists of objects that depend on the selected object and lists of objects on which the selected object depends. New text functions add the 'create index,' the 'create primary' and the 'create foreign' key statements on table text (DDL). A new 'Jump to Object' function will let the user jump to associated objects merely by double clicking on the row. All of these features make it easier for application developers and DBAs to perform impact analysis on changes to SQL statements."
The LECCO SQL Expert package consists of five modules:
-- Syntactical SQL Optimizer -- SQL Formatter -- Database Explorer -- SQL Inspector -- SQL Scanner
The SQL Inspector and SQL Scanner modules are designed to quickly identify potentially problematic SQL statements within the database objects and source code. Once they have been identified, the Syntactical SQL Optimizer can be used to tune the low-performing SQL statements not only to enhance their efficiency but to assure high quality of all SQL statements executed on the database server. In addition, it lays out every SQL statement in a consistent format so that maintainability is enhanced.
The Database Explorer module helps users determine whether any changes to the database structure are needed to further improve the performance of the SQL statement. The SQL Editor and Formatter provides automated tools to edit and optimize the statements, then to do a batch run to obtain their run times and then compare and identify which optimized statement best suits the application.
The new LECCO SQL Expert Version 2.4 is being demonstrated in the LECCOTECH exhibit (Booth No. 2326) at the OOW conference being held at the Moscone Center here all this week.
