LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 2000

PeopleSoft (Nasdaq:PSFT) today announced record performance benchmarks for PeopleSoft 8 on Sun Enterprise(TM) servers running the Solaris(TM) 8 Operating Environment with IBM DB2.

Using PeopleSoft 8 Payroll, the benchmark simulated employees logging onto their systems to view their paychecks and logging off. At one paycheck per employee, more than 162,000 paychecks were viewed in one hour.

These online benchmarks show that PeopleSoft's pure internet architecture gives customers a scalable, reliable, and high-performance platform on which to grow their eBusiness.

The benchmarks were performed on Sun Enterprise 4500 and 6500 servers running the Solaris 8 Operating Environment with IBM DB2 Universal Database Version 6.1. As with all PeopleSoft pure internet applications, no software was installed on the client and the View Payment application was accessed simply via a standard web browser.

A single Sun Enterprise 6500 server was used for the database server, two Sun Enterprise 4500 servers were used for the web servers, and two Sun Enterprise 6500 servers were used for the application server. The database server averaged 50 percent CPU utilization, the web servers averaged 60 percent CPU utilization, and the application servers averaged 99 percent CPU utilization. The database consisted of a standard data composition model for 200,347 employees.

"PeopleSoft and Sun deliver a winning combination for eBusiness," said Peter Gassner, vice president and general manager of the PeopleTools technology division at PeopleSoft. "PeopleSoft 8 on Sun Enterprise servers running Solaris 8 deliver an internet platform that large enterprises can fully leverage."

"These record breaking benchmarks are evidence that PeopleSoft and Sun can deliver industry leading eBusiness solutions," said Doug Kaewert, vice president of market development for Sun Microsystems, Inc. "PeopleSoft 8 on Sun Enterprise servers running the Solaris 8 platform will enable companies to take full advantage of their information assets and transform themselves into highly scalable eBusinesses."

The Solaris 8 Operating Environment is the industry's premier platform for availability, scalability, and security in the Internet age. With Solaris 8, Sun delivers a trustworthy, universal platform to meet the needs of .com businesses -- from small startups to large Fortune 1000 enterprises.

PeopleSoft 8 is built on the PeopleSoft Internet Architecture, the industry's first server-centric, pure internet platform for eBusiness. The architecture eliminates client software installation entirely, allowing access to PeopleSoft 8 eBusiness applications through low bandwidth networks from any platform supporting a web browser, such as cell phones and internet appliances, as well as UNIX, Linux, Windows, and Macintosh terminals.
