SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 23, 2000
Brience(TM), Inc., a leading provider of next-generation wireless Internet solutions and Ericsson, the leading supplier of wireless communications systems and Mobile Internet solutions, announced today an alliance to deliver end-to-end Mobile Internet solutions to service providers and enterprise customers.
Products and services from both companies will give Internet users rapid, cost-effective access to Web-based content on any wireless device. Brience and Ericsson will work together to allow their customers to extend the reach of their information to wireless and remote users while optimizing the user's experience. The technology selected to launch the alliance is CDPD (Cellular Digital Packet Data), a packet data enabler solution currently being deployed in several important markets.
Service providers will benefit from the solutions offered by Ericsson and Brience by having access to flexible gateway services, a broad portfolio of wireless Internet applications and tailor-made wireless portals. Enterprise customers will be empowered to access intranets, corporate databases, localized content-based solutions as well as a general and broad range of mobile Internet solutions from the combination of Ericsson and Brience's product portfolios.
"We consistently look for ways to simplify communications for our customers and that's one of the reasons we chose to align with Brience," said Robert Morrissette, manager of wireless application alliance and integration for Ericsson Canada. "Brience wireless services and software will help our customers extend their business reach to the mobile Internet cost-effectively, while increasing demand for our infrastructure products -- creating a winning situation all around."
"Brience is all about expanding business opportunities with easy, universal access to any Web-based content," said Keyur Patel, executive vice president of strategy for Brience. "Partnerships with communications leaders like Ericsson will help us promote and increase the development of wireless applications, giving people wireless access to information today while driving the next phases of e-business."
Brience offers software -- the Brience 2.0 Framework(TM) -- that allows businesses to mobile-enable their critical enterprise applications and information without adding additional infrastructure, duplicating existing data or compromising system security. Brience also provides hosted and managed wireless Internet infrastructure services through its state-of-the-art Network Operations Center, enabling wireless carriers and enterprises to offer applications, content and transaction services to their subscribers.
Ericsson has developed a comprehensive solution that encompasses the whole value chain. From research and planning, infrastructure installation, custom portal development, application development, fast-track access to major service providers, terminals, service and support, and marketing assistance, Ericsson will work with its customers to ensure that they make the most of this new opportunity for growth.
