FT. LAUDERDALE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000

CyberGuard Corporation (OTC: CYBG), a leading provider of network security solutions, today announced the release of CyberGuard(R) FireSTAR(TM), a premium appliance firewall developed for the unique security needs of small- to mid-sized networks with T-1 or DSL connections.

The new product brings the company's acclaimed high-end firewall technology to lower-bandwidth users for the first time in an affordable appliance package. Many of those customers are expected to be in Europe and Asia.

"The soaring growth of small- and mid-sized businesses here and abroad is helping to fuel the information economy, and is resulting in unique network security concerns for many companies," said CyberGuard's chairman and chief executive officer, David Proctor. "FireSTAR gives these smaller organizations a superior security solution at a reasonable cost - in a product based on our successful high-end KnightSTAR and STARLord products."

FireSTAR is the third phase of a three-pronged product strategy, creating premium firewall appliances for high-, mid- and low-bandwidth users. Last month, the company introduced STARLord, a firewall product created to serve the unique security needs of the largest business environments, such as those at Internet service providers (ISPs), application service providers (ASPs), large data centers and telecommunications providers. Earlier this year, the company introduced KnightSTAR, CyberGuard's first premium appliance firewall - targeted to mid- to large-sized network customers.

The FireSTAR appliance is a fully integrated, high-density, pre-staged and ready-to-operate firewall that includes browser-based central and remote management features. FireSTAR carries an ITSEC E-3 certification and is built to NSA B-2 specifications with a hardened UNIX-based operating system, providing users with the highest level of security.

Specific product features include:

- Robust throughput and support for up to 75,000 simultaneous

connections

- 100 Mbps performance

- 6 high-performance 10/100 Ethernet ports

- High-performance single-processor server

- Support for a DMZ Web-server port

- Compact 1U size

Developed as a direct response to customer demand--particularly in international markets--FireSTAR can also serve as a complement to a network already using one of the CyberGuard family of more powerful appliances. FireSTAR is now available for shipping.
