HOUSTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 24, 2000
BindView Corporation (NASDAQ:BVEW), a leading provider of IT administration and security management solutions, has been highlighted in a Hurwitz Group White Paper designed to help customers migrate their business solutions to the Microsoft Exchange 2000 platform. The Hurwitz Group, a consultancy focusing on strategic e-Business and information technology initiatives, authored a White Paper entitled, "Managing Exchange 2000 Migration with BindView" which is available at http://www.bindview.com/products/bv-Control/MSExchange/. The White Paper discusses the challenges faced with migrating to Exchange 2000, as well as the BindView products that can be used to help overcome these obstacles. Both the bv-Control and bv-Admin product families are noted as management solutions that aid in this migration.
"The migration to Exchange 2000 presents organizations with several challenges. However, BindView's products can help to smooth out these problems and make the migration much more efficient," said Richard L. Ptak, vice-president of the Hurwitz Group and author of "Managing Exchange 2000 Migration with BindView." "We believe that utilizing management solutions like bv-Control and bv-Admin will enable customers to migrate their solutions to Exchange 2000 without increasing their total cost of ownership."
According to the White Paper, which sources the Gartner Group for some of its data, e-mail usage is expected to increase 35 percent annually through the year 2003. This growth normally has a huge impact on systems and their associated configurations. This then leads to increased management costs. However, migrating to Exchange 2000 will consolidate an organization's e-mail system into one low cost solution, helping to offset the growth challenges and expenses.
The Hurwitz Group recognizes that BindView products can help in this transition in the following ways:
-- Migrating users to Windows 2000 and Active Directory
BindView's bv-Control accurately documents the existing environment, which provides a basis for the new environment as well as disaster protection if rollback is needed. bv-Admin provides modeling and data migration capabilities, which enable administrators to model multiple Active Directory hierarchies.
-- Migrating Exchange 5.5 objects into Active Directory
bv-Control finds the location and configuration information of Exchange 5.5 resources. This then allows managers to plan more effective Exchange 2000 architecture and implement account changes to prepare for migration. [pilcrow (paragraph sign)] Currently, BindView is developing functionality for bv-Admin that will support modeling, migration trials, rollback and recovery capabilities similar to those available for Windows 2000.
-- Ensuring correct configurations and security implementations
Administrators can use bv-Control's discovery and reporting capabilities enterprise-wide to find exceptions to standard configurations, and to track configuration changes over time. bv-Admin is able to reconfigure accounts and systems to prevent problems from affecting performance and availability.
-- Managing a mixed Exchange environment
Discovery, configuration and monitoring for Exchange 2000/5.5 and Windows 2000/NT are provided by bv-Control. It also allows administrators to plan for various restrictions that are imposed on Exchange 2000 in a mixed environment. BindView simplifies coexistence by allowing administrators to implement an Organizational Unit (OU) structure and role-based administration in their Exchange 2000 environment identical to Active Directory. With bv-Admin, discrete tasks like distribution list management can be delegated to administrators assigned to particular roles without compromising security.
-- On-going management issues
After the migration is complete, BindView products continue to support the customer. Security monitoring, administration controls and capacity planning capabilities ensure that the Exchange 2000 platform performs flawlessly.
"As our company continues to grow each year, I recognize and understand the need to migrate to the Exchange 2000 platform," said Joe Zamplione, manager of technical support for Sirius Satellite Radio. "BindView's solutions have given us the management capabilities to initiate this migration as quickly and efficiently as possible."
