Information Week, Advertising Age's BtoB and CIO magazines all recently honored FedEx Corp. (NYSE: FDX) for its creative and practical use of information technology.
"These honors underscore the vision of FedEx to be the best applied-technology company in the world," said Robert B. Carter, executive vice president and chief information officer of FedEx Corp. "We continually look for ways to broaden our portfolio of services to help our customers compete in today's fast-paced global marketplace."
In its 12th annual InformationWeek 500 issue, InformationWeek magazine named FedEx as one of the nation's most innovative users of technology. Seen by many IT professionals as the industry's annual report card, the InformationWeek 500 ranking is the only one of its kind based on the size and complexity of installed information technologies, as well as on the tangible business benefits created by technology.
"The InformationWeek 500 is one of the most prestigious honors an IT organization can receive," said Stephanie Stahl, editor of InformationWeek. "IT impacts all aspects of business today and these companies excel at using it to raise the bar in their industries."
Advertising Age's BtoB magazine also named fedex.com as the best and easiest-to-use Web site in the transportation and shipping industry. The publication found the FedEx site expresses the company's brand attributes of reliability and time-definite delivery and described the site as, "one of the best and easiest; customer support and e-commerce are first rate."
In August, FedEx was chosen by CIO magazine as a CIO-100 honoree. The award is presented yearly to the top 100 organizations that best leverage the use of information technology to achieve customer service excellence. "Our honorees have found paths around the many obstacles and have built or are building systems that enable them to better understand their customers," said the publication. "The details of their efforts may vary, but behind them are almost always two key elements that are needed for success: a strategy and a culture built around the customer connection."
The IT strategy of FedEx is to continue its improvement of technology to enable customers to gain market share and improve efficiency through pioneering electronic commerce and supply-chain solutions. By deploying information technology as a strategic tool and market enabler, FedEx stands apart from the competition and continues its long heritage of being an applied technology leader.
