BELLEVUE, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 4, 2000

Students throughout the Puget Sound region will have the opportunity to learn about electric and natural gas safety through an energetic theatre assembly.

This all-new safety assembly, Journey through Time, combines the theatre skills of the Discovery Works Production Company with the safety expertise of Puget Sound Energy's (NYSE:PSD) education department.

Assemblies will be held at over 95 schools throughout Puget Sound Energy's service territory. (See attachment for a list of schools, dates, times and locations.)

"Puget Sound Energy is offering a valuable service to Washington State schools," said Dr. Terry Bergeson, Superintendent of Public Instruction. "As we prepare students to meet the Essential Academic Learning Requirements (EALR) in health and fitness, these assemblies will provide an avenue for students to learn how to anticipate risky situations and demonstrate skills to promote safety and to assist in emergency situations at school, at home, and in the community."

The free 45-minute all-school assembly program for grades K-6 takes students on a voyage through the history of electricity and natural gas, while teaching important safety lessons. An entertaining host of characters -- Illustrious inventor Dr. Phinneas T. Artman, and his friends Caveman and Mrs. French -- star in this fast-paced interactive assembly.

"There are over a half million students in Puget Sound Energy's service territory and our goal is to reach as many of these students through assembly programs and individual classroom presentations with our electric and natural gas safety message, said David Reid, Puget Sound Energy education services.

During the past six years, over 200,000 children have participated in the safety assemblies. Puget Sound Energy offers the assemblies each fall starting in October and running through December.
