B/E Aerospace Develops SMART Lighting Controller for Aircraft Cabin Interiors

B/E Aerospace, Inc. (Nasdaq:BEAV) has developed an innovative new control device for aircraft cabin interior lighting systems, the company announced today.

Primarily designed for business jets or commercial jets configured for VIP use, the SMART Lighting Controller handles on/off and dimming functions for up to four separate lighting zones, and provides a range of settings from 30% to 100% of full brightness. Along with six user defined memories, this combination of features allows the user to establish different moods in different parts of the aircraft.

Not much more complicated than a simple on/off system, B/E's SMART Lighting Controller has advanced features that can only be found on large cabin management systems. The new product offers advantages to midsize and super-midsize aircraft operators, providing compact digital control without the installation of a complex cabin management system.

The SMART Lighting Controller is composed of two parts, the User Interface and the Lighting System Interface. The User Interface is available in custom plated finishes, features a user customized "touch pad," and allows the user to preset up to six global ambient lighting "scenes" -- for example, separate settings involving all four zones can be saved for mealtime, movies, and nighttime. In addition, a global button lets the user recall the last ambient light level and "undo" the last command executed, and provides an optional flood feature that restores the cabin to full brightness.

The SMART Lighting Controller can be used with B/E's AlCop System 2000 indirect lighting systems, reading lights or task lighting. It can be used in OEM applications and in older aircraft during full or partial cabin refurbishment.
