The Olympics are Here — Websense Urges Customers to Manage Employee Web Use; ``Special Events'' Category Gives Websense Customers New Network Tool

Business Wire, Sept 12, 2000

Business Editors

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2000

Airline tickets or the Internet.

Those are the only two ways an American sports fan will be able to watch live coverage of the Olympic Games, September 15 to October 1. And because less than six percent of Americans have home high-speed Internet access and 6.5 billion hits are expected for the official Olympics Web site alone, it is likely that the Sydney games will draw millions of employees while at work.

That's why Websense, a leading employee Internet management software company, is urging its customers to manage worker access to Olympic Web sites using its "Special Events" category. By clicking on the "Special Events" category, administrators will be able to manage access to Olympic-related sites by deferring it to lunch time or after work, for example. All database categories in Websense Enterprise software are refreshed every seven hours, so customers can manage employee access to the most current Olympic-related sites, saving employee productivity and network bandwidth.

"Tape-delayed TV coverage will drive millions of Olympic fans to the Internet for 24-hour access to streaming video clips, statistics, schedules and athlete profiles," said Andrew Meyer, vice president of marketing, Websense. "A company that does not prepare for this may find its bandwidth maxed -- frustrating those trying to do work-related functions at less than world-record speeds."

Websense Enterprise software allows companies to effectively manage Internet access to 60-plus categories of content, ranging from "pornography" to "gambling" to "stock trading."
