FREMONT, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 12, 2000
Logitech (Nasdaq:LOGIY)(Switzerland:LOGN, LOGZ), international market leader in human interface devices that define the way people link to information in business, at home and online, announced that the QuickCam Software Development Kit (SDK) is available for free download at http://developer.logitech.com/quickcam.
> With a worldwide installed base of 7.6 million PC/Internet cameras (IDC, 2000), there is strong interest among software and web developers to develop PC/Internet camera-based applications. The QuickCam SDK gives software developers unprecedented access to the functionality of the QuickCam, simplifying the process of integrating the company's QuickCam digital cameras into a broad range of applications. The QuickCam SDK, based on Microsoft's component architecture (COM), addresses the need for an open standard for controlling digital cameras easily and consistently across the QuickCam product line. In addition to providing access to the QuickCam video camera, the QuickCam SDK supplies functionality for recording movies, creating animations, detecting motion, taking pictures and other common digital camera tasks. The QuickCam SDK supports most QuickCam products, including the QuickCam Pro, QuickCam Web and QuickCam Express, and will support future releases.
"This tool establishes the QuickCam as a technology platform that allows developers to bring `vision' to the PC," said Junien Labrousse, vice president of Logitech's Video Business Division. "Our research and responses from developers indicate that the QuickCam SDK could shave anywhere from four weeks to three months from development cycles. As the market leader in Internet video cameras, Logitech has answered the demands of developers worldwide with this release. We look forward to countless new applications that take advantage of our vision technology."
A simple online registration form, located on the QuickCam SDK page at http://developer.logitech.com/quickcam, gives developers access to multiple engaging and informative tools, such as sample applications in three programming languages (Microsoft(R) Visual Basic(R), Win32 Visual C (TM) and MFC), resource files and documented code for the samples, redistributable QuickCam driver files, a driver installation package and API documentation. The web site features a growing FAQ list to get users off to a smooth start with the QuickCam SDK.
