SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 13, 2000

Cylink Corporation (NASDAQ:CYLK), a leading provider of secure e-business solutions, today announced that Ball State Federal Credit Union has reached the 1,000-member milestone in sign-ups for secure access to financial information over the Internet using Cylink PrivateWire(TM) authentication and encryption technology.

Ball State Federal Credit Union, a not-for-profit, federal credit union primarily serving Ball State University affiliates, staff members, alumni, students, and their families, manages approximately $60 million in assets. Since Ball State FCU implemented PrivateWire, more than 1,000 of its 16,000 members served from the credit union's Muncie, Indiana, headquarters have signed up to remotely establish a secure financial session using PrivateWire, which provides maximum security over the Internet.

"Member financial information that travels across the Web must be secure at all times," said Randy Glassburn, president and CEO of Ball State Federal Credit Union. "This application gives us a competitive advantage of versatility and convenience by giving our members secure access to personal financial information over the Internet."

PrivateWire is a bundled package of security services that supports almost any electronic business need. Through PrivateWire, organizations can increase their business reach, reduce telecommunication costs, and offer secure online services. The software can be integrated into almost any network environment with little or no application, system or network change.

Information Control Systems, Inc. (ICSI), a financial systems integrator for credit unions, performed the architecture design, deployment and operation of the online service for BSFCU. ICSI, which plans to market similar solutions to other credit unions, designed the application so that operators at Ball State FCU can administer the service themselves. The system was built using Microsoft Financial Services Toolkit and Windows NT servers.

"We chose PrivateWire because installation required only small changes to our application," said Michael Sobek, president of ICSI. "The performance of the solution is demonstrated by the fact that we are not experiencing any lag time on the network."

"By providing its customers with the option of secure Internet access, Ball State is now leading the way for financial institutions throughout the United States," said George Sullivan, general manager of Internet Products for Cylink. "We are pleased to support efforts by the industry to provide customers with state-of-the-art security services."

With current legislation opening the door to the use of electronic signatures across the Internet, Ball State plans to incorporate bill payment, electronic statements, and other e-commerce applications into their offering. The Ball State application is available at http://www.bsfcu.com.
