JACKSONVILLE, Fla.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sept. 18, 2000

Trailer Bridge, Inc. (NASDAQ National Market:TRBR) today announced that the Company's Port Newark, NJ facility has obtained ISO 9002 certification. This is a result of Det Norske Veritas (U.S.A.), Inc. ("DNV'), an internationally recognized ISO certification body, recommending that the Newark facility be included as a scope extension in Trailer Bridge's ISO certification. Each of Trailer Bridge's five major facilities is now ISO 9002 certified. DNV also recently completed their fifth periodic review of Trailer Bridge's quality system with Company officials in San Juan and found no non-conformities.

ISO 9002 is an international certification that a company meets certain standards. It is made up of a series of quality system requirements, including control of inspection equipment, product identification and tracking and product inspection and testing.

The extension of certification of Trailer Bridge's quality system to the Port Newark facility comes just before an expansion of service between the Northeast and Puerto Rico. As recently announced, commencing Wednesday, October 11th, Trailer Bridge will offer weekly service between Port Newark and San Juan. Trailer Bridge had been offering bi-weekly service between these ports.

Hope Ferguson, Trailer Bridge's Manager of Quality said, "This scope extension and successful periodic review resulted from tremendous teamwork and is consistent with our goal of continuous improvement and customer satisfaction." Ed Morley, Vice President-Operations, added, "We commenced operations in Newark using ISO standards as our guideline and are pleased to now have the accompanying addition to our scope of certification as we expand to weekly service."

"We are the only Puerto Rico carrier in the Port of New York to be fully ISO 9002 certified at both mainland and San Juan locations. In addition to the benefits that our differentiated cost-efficient, service-proficient system gives our customers, our adherence to ISO 9002 standards assures the consistency of the Trailer Bridge Advantage," stated Ralph Heim, President and Chief Operating Officer.

Trailer Bridge provides integrated trucking and marine freight service to and from all points in the lower 48 states and Puerto Rico, bringing efficiency, environmental and safety benefits to domestic cargo in that traffic lane. This total transportation system utilizes its own trucks, drivers, trailers, containers, U.S. flag vessels and marine facilities in Jacksonville, New York and San Juan. Trailer Bridge's founder and majority stockholder is Malcom P. McLean, the transportation pioneer who invented containerization forty years ago.
