LOS ANGELES--(ENTERTAINMENT WIRE)--Sept. 27, 2000

The Worst Ways to Die Square Off in Tongue-in-Cheek Round of 64;

No. 1 Seeds are Drawn & Quartered, Decapitated By Train,

Cancer and Eyes Pecked Out

Which is the worse way to die: Getting decapitated by a train or having your head sawed off by a spork? Eating Pop Rocks and drinking soda or swigging Kool Aid in Guyana? Being buried alive or swamped by an avalanche?

In conjunction with the New Line Home Video Platinum Series DVD release of "Final Destination" and based on the plot of the film, New Line Home Video and DVD.com are teaming up for "The Road to the Final Destination" to let the public decide the worst way to die once and for all.

The online real-time voting tournament (online at: http://www.dvd.com/stories/play/destination) runs from now throughout the month of October. Taking a nod from college basketball, the field consists of 64 "Final Destination"-inspired maladies -- ranging from plane crash, electrocution and gnome attack to cancer and phlegmothermia -- which square off in four "regionals": Wrongful Deaths, Accidents, Diseases & Disorders, and Natural (and Unnatural) Disasters.

The field will dwindle each week based on user votes with the winner of the final "death match" to be announced on Halloween. Along the way, DVD-dot-commentator Dick Mortale handicaps the favorites, predicts the upsets, and lauds the dandies.

In addition to the tournament voting, New Line Home Video and DVD.com are offering an enter-to-win contest with weekly prizes including "Final Destination" DVDs, a cast autographed "Final Destination" poster, a costume from the movie, and a special New Line Home Video scary Halloween DVD box set.

"Final Destination" is New Line's spine-chilling supernatural thriller in which a group of students is forced to get off a plane after one of them experiences a terrifying premonition that the plane is going to explode, killing all on board. But when the student's prediction turns tragically accurate, the survivors find they are hunted by a presence that may or may not be Death itself coming to collect its due.

James Wong directs a dynamic young cast that features Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Kerr Smith, Kristen Cloke, Amanda Detmer, Seann William Scott and Chad Donella.

    Biogen Corners the Social-Media Market For Its Drugs

    On November 2, Biogen Idec updated the prescribing label for its blockbuster multiple sclerosis drug Tysabri (natalizumab) after consultation with the FDA. Aside from acknowledging that the risk of developing progressive multifocal leukoencephalopathy (PML), an often fatal brain infection, increases with longer duration of treatment, no other revisions concerning the risk of PML were required. The fact that this biologic remains a cornerstone treatment for adult patients with relapsing forms of MS -- only the second drug to ever return to U.S. pharmacy shelves after having been withdrawn -- speaks volumes to the growing influence of the worldwide web.
