Intellectual Property Practice Expands At Holland & Knight

Holland & Knight LLP is pleased to announce that partners Carol L.B. Matthews, Paul Kilmer, Thomas W. Brooke, and associates Anthony R. Masiello, and Stephen J. Jeffries have joined the firm's Intellectual Property Practice Group in Washington, D.C.
"Intellectual property rights are critical issues for many of our domestic and international clients and we are excited to have this experienced group on board," said William J. Mutryn, head of the local Business Law Group.
Partner Carol L.B. Matthews is a seasoned IP lawyer and focuses her practice on prosecution of trademark and copyright applications, counseling and advice on copyright matters, license agreements and technology transfer work, and domain name and Internet-related issues. She has recently handled matters for a motion picture production company and an educational organization involved in publishing and television production. Matthews received her B.A. from the University of Michigan and her LLB from the University of North Carolina.
Partner Paul Kilmer's practice encompasses all aspects of trademark, copyright and unfair competition. Kilmer has broad experience in international aspects of intellectual property protection, licensing, technology transfers, and emerging company representation. His industry experience includes entertainment, petrochemical, apparel, resorts, insurance and food and beverage products. Kilmer serves on the Advisory Board of The Textile Museum and the Internet Advisory Group of American Rivers, while also chairing an International Trademark Association ("INTA") subcommittee charged with assisting developing nations to improve their intellectual property law systems. Kilmer earned his B.A. from the University of Northern Iowa and his J.D. from American University's Washington College of Law.
Partner Thomas W. Brooke assists clients with trademark protection worldwide, and is specifically focused on unfair competition, trade secrets, counterfeiting and technology transfers. Brooke serves as chair of the INTA's U.S. Legislation Subcommittee and helped shape U.S. law on Dilution and Anti-Cybersquatting. He is also chair of the INTA-PAC and has chaired other INTA Committees and Committees of the ABA's Intellectual Property Section. Prior to private practice, he served as a legislative assistant to Senator John McCain and Congressman Frank Wolf. Brooke earned his B.A. and J.D. from the College of William and Mary.
Associates Anthony Masiello and Stephen Jeffries also joined Holland & Knight from Gadsby & Hannah LLP with extensive experience in trademark and copyright prosecution and litigation. Masiello earned his A.B. and J.D. from Harvard University. Jeffries earned his B.A. and J.D. from Wake Forest University. Both served as Trademark Examining Attorneys at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
